There is no state-issued license required for the role. Employers across New York's financial services, healthcare, and media sectors typically expect proficiency in SQL and at least one major BI platform. Building a portfolio of dashboards or analytical projects and earning a recognized credential like Microsoft's Power BI certification or Tableau Desktop Specialist strengthens applications considerably.
How much do BI analysts make in New York?
BI analysts in New York earn a median of about $130,460 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $73,330 for the lowest 10% to over $214,080 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.

Employers hiring bi analysts in New York right now include Amazon, Horizon Media, and Hunter Douglas, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. New York's concentration of major banks, insurance carriers, hospital systems, and media companies means demand for bi analysts is consistent year-round across a wide range of industries and company sizes.
Which New York cities have the most bi analyst jobs?
The cities with the most bi analyst openings in New York are New York, Amityville, and Brooklyn. New York City dominates the distribution because of its dense concentration of financial institutions, advertising firms, large healthcare networks, and corporate headquarters, while openings in Buffalo and Albany are largely driven by regional hospital systems, state government agencies, and insurance companies with significant back-office analytics operations.
