Data Analytics Engineer Jobs in Maryland: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a data analytics engineer in Maryland?
There is no state-issued license required to work as a data analytics engineer in Maryland. Most employers expect a bachelor's degree in computer science, data science, information systems, or a closely related field, and many senior roles prefer a master's degree. Practical credentials such as Google Cloud Professional Data Engineer, AWS Certified Data Analytics, or dbt certifications are valued by Maryland's large federal contracting and healthcare employers and can substitute for advanced degrees in some cases.
How much do data analytics engineers make in Maryland?
Data analytics engineers in Maryland earn a median of about $136,370 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $77,930 for the lowest 10% to over $213,270 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire data analytics engineers in Maryland?
Employers hiring data analytics engineers in Maryland right now include JBS INTERNATIONAL, Saalex, and Staffed4U, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Maryland's concentration of federal contractors, defense agencies, and major healthcare systems means demand is particularly deep for engineers who can work with sensitive or regulated data environments.
Which Maryland cities have the most data analytics engineer jobs?
Annapolis Junction, Bethesda, and Lexington Park have the most data analytics engineer openings in Maryland. The Baltimore metro anchors hiring through its healthcare systems, financial institutions, and university research programs, while the Montgomery County and Bethesda corridor generates substantial demand from federal agencies, consulting firms, and biotech companies that cluster near the D.C. beltway.
Are there remote data analytics engineer jobs in Maryland?
Yes, and more than most fields, because data analytics engineering is almost entirely desk-based and cloud-driven. About 74% of data analytics engineer openings tied to Maryland are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting how widely distributed this kind of work has become. Pipeline development, data modeling, and dashboard engineering are the sub-functions most commonly offered as fully remote arrangements.
How can I get hired as a data analytics engineer in Maryland with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through a data analyst or business intelligence analyst role, then building toward engineering responsibilities over time. Maryland's federal contractors such as Booz Allen Hamilton and Leidos run structured associate and new-professional programs that accept candidates with strong SQL and Python skills even without deep pipeline experience. Completing a cloud certification from AWS or Google and contributing to a public GitHub portfolio of data projects gives Maryland employers something concrete to evaluate when your formal work history is thin.
Where can I find and apply to data analytics engineer jobs in Maryland?
You can find and apply to data analytics engineer jobs in Maryland on Migrate Mate, which lists current Maryland openings updated in real time. Search for the roles and seniority levels that match your background, find the ones that fit, and apply directly without needing to create a profile first.
