Business Intelligence Jobs in Maryland: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a business intelligence professional in Maryland?
Most business intelligence roles in Maryland require a bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, business analytics, or a related field, and no state-issued license applies to the role. Maryland employers, particularly federal contractors and healthcare systems, often favor candidates who hold vendor certifications from Microsoft, Tableau, or AWS alongside their degree. Building a portfolio of dashboards or data models demonstrably tied to real business decisions is the fastest way to stand out in the state's competitive market.
How much do business intelligences make in Maryland?
Business intelligences in Maryland earn a median of about $136,370 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $77,930 for the lowest 10% to over $213,270 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire business intelligence professionals in Maryland?
Employers hiring business intelligences in Maryland right now include Johns Hopkins Health System, Frederick Health, and RTX, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Maryland's concentration of federal contractors in the Bethesda and Columbia corridors means a significant share of openings require or strongly prefer candidates who hold an active security clearance.
Which Maryland cities have the most business intelligence jobs?
Baltimore, Rockville, and Jessup lead Maryland for business intelligence openings. Baltimore anchors demand through its major hospital systems and financial institutions, while Bethesda and Rockville draw heavily from federal agencies and the defense contractors clustered along the I-270 technology corridor, making the DC suburbs the state's single largest concentration of BI roles.
Are there remote business intelligence jobs in Maryland?
Yes, and more than most fields, since business intelligence work is inherently desk-based and output-driven. About 75% of business intelligence openings tied to Maryland are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting the broad shift toward distributed analytics teams. Roles focused on self-service reporting and dashboard development tend to be the most consistently remote, while positions requiring close collaboration with cleared government clients are more likely to mandate on-site presence.
How can I get hired as a business intelligence professional in Maryland with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a junior data analyst or reporting analyst role, which many Maryland healthcare systems and federal contractors treat as a feeder position into full BI work. Organizations like the University of Maryland Medical System and large contractors in the Columbia area regularly hire entry-level analysts from new-graduate pipelines. Building a public portfolio of Tableau or Power BI dashboards using publicly available datasets, and earning a foundational certification from Microsoft or Google, gives Maryland hiring managers a concrete signal when a resume is otherwise thin.
Where can I find and apply to business intelligence jobs in Maryland?
You can find and apply to business intelligence jobs in Maryland on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across the state. Search for roles that match your experience level and specialization, then apply directly to the ones that fit. No sign-up is required to view listings.
