Data Analytics Manager Jobs in Maryland: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a data analytics manager in Maryland?
Most data analytics managers in Maryland enter the role by building several years of experience as a data analyst or business intelligence analyst before moving into management. Maryland does not require a state-issued license for this role. Employers in the state, particularly in healthcare and federal contracting, favor candidates with a bachelor's or master's degree in data science, statistics, or a related field, along with demonstrated experience leading analytical projects and mentoring junior analysts.
How much do data analytics managers make in Maryland?
Data analytics managers in Maryland earn a median of about $136,370 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $77,930 for the lowest 10% to over $213,270 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire data analytics managers in Maryland?
Companies currently hiring data analytics managers in Maryland include Johns Hopkins University, Fearless, and Peraton, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Maryland's concentration of healthcare systems, defense contractors, and financial services firms makes it one of the more consistent markets in the mid-Atlantic region for senior analytics leadership roles.
Which Maryland cities have the most data analytics manager jobs?
Baltimore, Bethesda, and Frederick have the most data analytics manager openings in Maryland. Baltimore drives volume through its large healthcare systems and financial institutions, while the Montgomery County and Rockville corridor pulls significant demand from federal agencies and government contractors, making suburban locations outside the city proper important markets for this role.
Are there remote data analytics manager jobs in Maryland?
Yes, and more than most fields, since data analytics manager work is inherently desk-based and output is easily measured remotely. About 71% of data analytics manager openings tied to Maryland are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting broader flexibility across the sector. Strategic planning, reporting, and team oversight functions are most commonly performed remotely, while roles tied to federal contracts or regulated healthcare data often require on-site presence.
How can I get hired as a data analytics manager in Maryland with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving into a junior data analyst or business intelligence analyst role first, then building toward management over time. Large Maryland healthcare employers and defense contractors such as those in the Baltimore-Washington corridor regularly hire entry-level analysts through university partnerships and rotational analyst programs. Building a portfolio of projects, earning a recognized analytics certification, and gaining experience in SQL and visualization tools are the credentials that most consistently open the door to management-track positions in the state.
