Most data analytics managers in Virginia start with a bachelor's degree in a quantitative field such as statistics, computer science, or information systems, and many employers in the region prefer a master's degree. There is no state-issued license specific to this role in Virginia. Candidates typically progress from analyst or senior analyst positions, building team leadership experience before moving into management. In Northern Virginia's federal contracting market, holding or being eligible for a security clearance significantly strengthens a candidacy.
How much do data analytics managers make in Virginia?
Data analytics managers in Virginia earn a median of about $126,430 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $76,420 for the lowest 10% to over $207,890 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire data analytics managers in Virginia?
Companies currently hiring data analytics managers in Virginia include Capital One, Information Technology Senior Management Forum, and Booz Allen Hamilton, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Virginia's concentration of federal agencies and defense contractors means a large share of these openings require candidates with experience working on government programs or managing analytics within regulated environments.
Which Virginia cities have the most data analytics manager jobs?
McLean, Arlington, and Richmond have the most data analytics manager openings in Virginia. Northern Virginia dominates because of its dense cluster of federal agencies, defense contractors, and technology firms, while Richmond draws openings from Capital One and a growing financial technology sector, and Hampton Roads reflects demand from Navy installations and defense-adjacent employers.

Yes, and more than most fields, because data analytics management is fundamentally desk and platform-based work. Strategic planning, stakeholder reporting, and model oversight are the functions most commonly performed fully remotely.
How can I get hired as a data analytics manager in Virginia with little or no experience?
The most realistic path is securing an analyst or associate data analyst role first, then moving into a team lead or senior analyst position that carries informal management responsibility. Virginia's large federal contractors, including those concentrated in Tysons, Herndon, and McLean, regularly hire entry-level analysts through rotational programs and cleared-track associate programs that build toward management. Building a portfolio of BI dashboards or analytics projects and earning a certification such as Google Data Analytics or Microsoft Power BI Data Analyst Associate strengthens a candidacy considerably.
