Business Analyst Jobs in Maryland: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a business analyst in Maryland?
Maryland does not require a state-issued license to work as a business analyst. Most employers expect a bachelor's degree in business administration, information systems, or a related field, and many prefer candidates who hold a Certified Business Analysis Professional credential from the International Institute of Business Analysis. Those entering federal contracting roles in the D.C. suburbs should also be prepared for clearance eligibility checks, which are a routine part of the hiring process across that corridor.
Which companies hire business analysts in Maryland?
Companies currently hiring business analysts in Maryland include FEI Systems, Lockheed Martin, and CVS Health, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Maryland's concentration of federal agencies and defense contractors means that systems integrators and healthcare organizations consistently represent some of the most active employers in the state.
Which Maryland cities have the most business analyst jobs?
Baltimore, Maryland, and Bethesda account for the largest share of business analyst openings in Maryland. Baltimore anchors demand through its healthcare systems and financial institutions, the Montgomery County and Prince George's County suburbs draw heavily from federal agency and defense contractor activity near the D.C. border, and Annapolis adds openings through state government and insurance sector employers based there.
Are there remote business analyst jobs in Maryland?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 77% of business analyst openings tied to Maryland are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting how well-suited the analytical and documentation work is to distributed teams. Requirements gathering, data modeling, and reporting tasks are the functions most commonly performed fully remote, while stakeholder workshops and product launches more often require on-site presence.
How can I get hired as a business analyst in Maryland with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving laterally from an adjacent role such as data coordinator, project coordinator, or operations analyst, where you already document processes and work with stakeholders. Large Maryland healthcare systems like Johns Hopkins Health System and University of Maryland Medical System hire associate-level analysts and IT business analyst interns who build formal experience on the job. Completing a CBAP-prep course or earning an entry-level Agile certification gives candidates from non-traditional backgrounds a concrete credential to anchor applications.
Where can I find and apply to business analyst jobs in Maryland?
You can find and apply to business analyst jobs in Maryland on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers hiring across the state. Search the listings, find the roles that match your background and target location, and apply directly through each posting.
