Data Center Design Jobs in Nebraska: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a data center design in Nebraska?
Most Nebraska data center design roles require a bachelor's degree in electrical, mechanical, civil, or architectural engineering. Candidates who pursue licensure register as an Engineer Intern through the Nebraska State Board of Engineers and Architects after passing the Fundamentals of Engineering exam, then work toward full Professional Engineer licensure. Many employers also value industry credentials such as BICSI RCDD or Uptime Institute ATD certification, which signal hands-on competency with mission-critical infrastructure design.
How much do data center designs make in Nebraska?
Data center designs in Nebraska earn a median of about $91,530 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $48,790 for the lowest 10% to over $167,680 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire data center designs in Nebraska?
Nebraska data center design roles are posted by Olsson, Valmont Industries, and HDR and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Nebraska's strong base of financial services firms, insurance carriers, and national logistics companies means demand extends well beyond pure technology employers to enterprise infrastructure teams across multiple industries.
Which Nebraska cities have the most data center design jobs?
Omaha, Lincoln, and Valley account for the largest share of data center design openings in Nebraska. Omaha anchors the market as the state's largest metro and home to major financial, insurance, and corporate headquarters that run significant internal data infrastructure, while Lincoln draws demand from state government, university, and research institutions that maintain and expand their own facilities.
Are there remote data center design jobs in Nebraska?
Yes, but they're rare. Data center design work is heavily site-dependent, requiring physical walkthroughs, coordination with construction teams, and on-site commissioning. About 36% of data center design openings tied to Nebraska are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting how limited full remote work is in this field. The tasks most likely to be done remotely are schematic design, specification writing, and BIM modeling during early project phases.
How can I get hired as a data center design in Nebraska with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through a junior engineer or design associate role at a Nebraska-based MEP or engineering firm such as HDR, which is headquartered in Omaha and regularly onboards early-career engineers into infrastructure and facilities projects. Lateral moves from roles in building systems engineering, facilities management, or construction administration are common. Earning an Engineer Intern registration through the Nebraska State Board of Engineers and Architects and building a portfolio of relevant coursework or internship projects strengthens any early-career application significantly.
Where can I find and apply to data center design jobs in Nebraska?
You can find and apply to data center design jobs in Nebraska on Migrate Mate, which lists current Nebraska openings across Omaha, Lincoln, and other markets. Search the listings, find roles that match your background and target location, and apply directly to the ones that fit.
