JOB TITLE: Data Center Engineer
LOCATION: Ashburn, VA
DURATION: 6 month contract to hire
RATE RANGE: $45-$55/hr
Responsibilities
- Perform day-to-day operations and monitoring of servers and network infrastructure
- Support the build-out, including equipment installation, integration, and operational readiness
- Assist with future campus expansions and facility scaling projects
- Troubleshoot and resolve hardware, network, and storage-related incidents in a timely manner
- Execute scheduled maintenance, change management, and infrastructure upgrades following established procedures
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Network Engineering, Cloud Operations, and Storage) to ensure high availability and performance
- Maintain accurate documentation of processes, incidents, and infrastructure changes
- Support capacity planning, inventory management, and asset tracking for supported systems
- Participate in an on-call rotation and provide hands-on support during emergencies or critical events
- Ensure compliance with data center standards, security policies, and operational SLAs
Requirements
- 3+ years of experience in data center operations, preferably in large-scale hyperscale or enterprise environments
- Hands-on experience with data center hardware, cabling, fiber optics (MPO), and infrastructure troubleshooting
- Solid understanding of network protocols, server hardware, and storage technologies
- Ability to read and interpret technical documentation, network diagrams, and rack elevations
- Experience supporting build-outs, expansions, or greenfield data center deployments (highly desirable)
- Excellent problem-solving, communication, and documentation skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, 24×7 environment with on-call rotation
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or equivalent practical experience
- Relevant certifications (for example, CCNA, CompTIA Server+, or data center certifications) are a plus
