Data Consultant Jobs in Pennsylvania: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a data consultant in Pennsylvania?
Data consulting in Pennsylvania has no state-issued license or registration requirement, so the path runs through education and credentials. Most employers expect at minimum a bachelor's degree in data science, computer science, statistics, or information systems. Certifications such as Google Data Analytics, Microsoft Certified: Azure Data Engineer, or Tableau Desktop Specialist are widely recognized in Pennsylvania hiring. Philadelphia-area and Pittsburgh-area firms often use these credentials as practical filters in addition to degree requirements.
How much do data consultants make in Pennsylvania?
Data consultants in Pennsylvania earn a median of about $106,850 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $63,340 for the lowest 10% to over $162,290 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire data consultants in Pennsylvania?
Employers hiring data consultants in Pennsylvania right now include PNC Financial Services, Logic, and HealthVerity, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Pennsylvania's concentration of large health systems, financial institutions, and federal contractors means consulting demand is spread across multiple sectors rather than tied to a single industry.
Which Pennsylvania cities have the most data consultant jobs?
Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, and Pennsylvania account for the most data consultant openings in Pennsylvania. Philadelphia leads because of its density of large health systems, financial services firms, and consulting offices, while Pittsburgh's strength in technology, banking, and university-affiliated research drives consistent demand there, and Harrisburg's concentration of state government agencies and government contractors adds a notable public-sector stream of openings.
Are there remote data consultant jobs in Pennsylvania?
Yes, and more than most fields. Data consulting is desk-based and analytical by nature, making it well suited to remote and hybrid arrangements. About 75% of data consultant openings tied to Pennsylvania are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, reflecting how broadly employers in this space have adopted flexible work models. Project delivery, stakeholder reporting, and data modeling work are the functions most consistently offered on a remote basis.
How can I get hired as a data consultant in Pennsylvania with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a junior or associate data analyst role, which serves as the standard stepping stone into consulting at Pennsylvania employers. Large health systems such as Penn Medicine and UPMC, financial institutions including PNC Bank and Lincoln Financial, and consulting firms with Philadelphia or Pittsburgh offices regularly post associate-level openings for candidates who hold a relevant degree or a recognized data certification. Building a portfolio of SQL queries, dashboard projects, or case study analyses and earning a certificate such as Google Data Analytics or Microsoft Power BI Data Analyst strengthens an application considerably.
Where can I find and apply to data consultant jobs in Pennsylvania?
You can find and apply to data consultant jobs in Pennsylvania on Migrate Mate, which lists current Pennsylvania openings across Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Harrisburg, and other locations in the state. Find roles that fit your experience and apply directly from the listing.
