Entry Level Data Governance Lead Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get an entry level data governance lead job?
Entry level data governance lead roles reward candidates who can show hands-on work with data cataloging tools, metadata management, or data quality frameworks, even from coursework or internships. Familiarity with platforms like Collibra, Alation, or Microsoft Purview stands out on a junior resume. A portfolio project documenting a data governance policy or a data dictionary gives hiring managers something concrete to evaluate when your experience is still limited.
Which companies hire entry level data governance leads?
Companies hiring entry level data governance leads right now include Indeed, KeyBank, and T-Mobile, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. At this level, hiring comes from a broad mix of employers, including large financial institutions, healthcare systems, technology firms, and government contractors that are building out or formalizing their data governance programs.
Are there remote entry level data governance lead jobs?
Yes, remote opportunities exist at the entry level, though on-site roles are still common as many teams prefer new hires to learn governance workflows in person. About 44% of entry level data governance lead openings are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, so candidates who need location flexibility should filter for those postings specifically when searching current listings.
Are these new grad data governance lead jobs?
Yes, these listings include new grad, recent graduate, and junior roles that explicitly welcome candidates with zero to two years of experience. A new-grad-friendly posting typically mentions internship experience as sufficient, accepts a degree in information management, computer science, or a related field in place of work history, or lists a portfolio or capstone project as an acceptable credential. Look for language like 'entry level' or 'junior' in the job title or requirements.
Which industries hire the most entry level data governance leads?
Entry Level data governance lead roles concentrate in Technology & Software, Banking & Financial Services, and Retail, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. These sectors tend to drive hiring at the junior level because they face the strongest regulatory pressure around data quality, privacy compliance, and auditability, creating demand for early-career professionals who can support governance frameworks under senior direction.
