Data Governance Manager Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a data governance manager in Texas?
Texas does not require a state-issued license to work as a data governance manager, so the path runs through education and professional certification. Most hiring managers expect a bachelor's degree in information systems, computer science, or business analytics, plus several years in a data-related role. Earning a Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP) credential through DAMA International or a governance-specific certification from a platform vendor like Collibra strengthens candidacy significantly in the Texas market.
How much do data governance managers make in Texas?
Data governance managers in Texas earn a median of about $171,530 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $106,390 for the lowest 10% to over $277,160 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire data governance managers in Texas?
Employers hiring data governance managers in Texas right now include CBRE, CohnReznick, and Deloitte, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's concentration of large financial institutions, integrated health systems, and global energy companies creates steady year-round demand for governance professionals who can manage complex, regulated data environments.
Which Texas cities have the most data governance manager jobs?
Austin, Dallas, and Plano account for the largest share of data governance manager openings in Texas. Houston's dominance in energy and healthcare drives consistent demand, Dallas attracts financial services and corporate headquarters, and Austin's technology sector adds a growing concentration of roles, particularly at software companies and fast-scaling startups with enterprise data needs.
Are there remote data governance manager jobs in Texas?
Yes, and more than most fields. Data governance work is largely analytical and policy-driven, making it well suited to remote and hybrid arrangements. About 67% of data governance manager openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting how broadly employers have accepted distributed teams for this function. Policy development, data quality oversight, and stakeholder training are the duties most frequently performed remotely.
How can I get hired as a data governance manager in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is transitioning from a data analyst, business analyst, or database administrator role, since Texas employers at large health systems like HCA Houston Healthcare and financial firms in the Dallas-Fort Worth corridor regularly promote internally from those positions. Building a portfolio of data quality documentation or a sample governance policy, and earning a foundational CDMP certification, signals readiness. Applying to data steward or data coordinator titles is the clearest lateral move into governance without prior management experience.
Where can I find and apply to data governance manager jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to data governance manager jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current Texas openings across all major metros and industries. Find roles that fit your experience and apply directly to each one.
