Data Science Engineer Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a data science engineer in Texas?
Texas does not require a state-issued license to work as a data science engineer, so the path runs through education and demonstrated technical skill. Most Texas employers expect at least a bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, statistics, or mathematics, with a master's degree preferred for senior roles. Building a portfolio of end-to-end ML projects, contributing to open-source pipelines, and earning cloud certifications from AWS or Google Cloud significantly strengthens a candidacy in the Texas market.
How much do data science engineers make in Texas?
Data science engineers in Texas earn a median of about $122,090 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $64,540 for the lowest 10% to over $170,780 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire data science engineers in Texas?
Employers hiring data science engineers in Texas right now include Apple, NVIDIA, and Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's concentration of energy majors, financial services firms, and large defense contractors means demand is spread across industries rather than concentrated in a single sector.
Which Texas cities have the most data science engineer jobs?
Austin, Dallas, and Irving account for the most data science engineer openings in Texas. Houston's concentration of energy and petrochemical companies drives substantial demand for engineers who work with sensor and operational data, while Dallas-Fort Worth's financial services and telecom headquarters and Austin's technology sector generate the largest volumes of software-forward data science engineering roles.
Are there remote data science engineer jobs in Texas?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 17% of data science engineer openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting the desk-based and code-centric nature of the work. Roles focused on model development, pipeline engineering, and analytics infrastructure tend to be the most amenable to fully remote arrangements, while positions involving on-site data systems or classified government contracts typically require in-person presence.
How can I get hired as a data science engineer in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is securing an associate data engineer or junior data analyst role and building toward data science engineering responsibilities from there. Large Texas employers such as ExxonMobil, USAA, and Texas Instruments run internship and new-graduate rotational programs that accept candidates with strong academic project portfolios even without industry experience. Completing a recognized cloud certification and publishing end-to-end pipeline projects on a public code repository gives early-career candidates a concrete technical signal that compensates for limited professional history.
Where can I find and apply to data science engineer jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to data science engineer jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current Texas openings. Find roles that fit your experience and location and apply directly through each listing.
