Dental Technician Jobs in Montana: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a dental technician in Montana?
Montana does not require a state-issued license for dental technicians, so the path to employment runs through education and voluntary national certification. Most employers expect completion of an accredited dental technology program, typically a two-year associate degree. Candidates who pass the National Board for Certification in Dental Laboratory Technology exam and earn the Certified Dental Technician credential are consistently preferred by larger Montana labs and health system dental departments.
Which companies hire dental technicians in Montana?
Companies currently hiring dental technicians in Montana include Aspen Dental, Dental Metrics Maven, and Ivey Dental, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Montana's larger health systems and affiliated commercial dental laboratories in Billings and Missoula account for much of the consistent demand in the state.
Which Montana cities have the most dental technician jobs?
The cities with the most dental technician openings in Montana are Billings, Missoula, and Helena. Billings drives the largest share of demand as the state's most populous city and home to its biggest health system campus, while Missoula and Great Falls generate openings through their regional medical centers, private dental group practices, and independent commercial laboratories serving surrounding rural communities.
Are there remote dental technician jobs in Montana?
Yes, but they're rare. Dental technology is fundamentally hands-on bench work, so most roles require physical presence in a lab or clinical facility. About 0% of dental technician openings tied to Montana are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, and those positions typically involve design-side CAD/CAM work or case management coordination rather than direct fabrication.
How can I get hired as a dental technician in Montana with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying for a dental laboratory assistant or technician trainee role, which larger Montana lab operations and health system dental departments use to bring in candidates who hold an accredited certificate or are completing one. Billings Clinic and Logan Health occasionally post support-level dental positions that serve as structured on-ramps. Completing a dental assisting or dental hygiene program can also provide transferable clinical familiarity, and earning even a provisional Certified Dental Technician credential signals seriousness to Montana employers who do not require a state license.
Where can I find and apply to dental technician jobs in Montana?
