Design Engineer Jobs in Phoenix: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a design engineer job in Phoenix?
Focus your search on Phoenix's aerospace corridor near Deer Valley, the semiconductor clusters in Chandler, and the defense contractors throughout the East Valley. Employers in these sectors look for hands-on CAD proficiency, familiarity with design-for-manufacturing principles, and experience with the materials or components specific to their industry. Tailoring your resume to reflect the sector, whether avionics, chip design, or industrial equipment, gives you a clear edge over generalist applicants.
Which companies hire design engineers in Phoenix?
Employers hiring design engineers in Phoenix right now include Intel, Honeywell Aerospace, and Intel Corporation, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Phoenix's hiring base skews heavily toward aerospace OEMs, defense contractors, and semiconductor fabrication companies, with a growing cluster of renewable energy and EV component firms filling out the local market.
Are there remote design engineer jobs in Phoenix?
Yes, though remote availability depends heavily on the specialty: analytical and software-facing design roles such as simulation, electrical schematic review, and thermal modeling are more remote-compatible, while hands-on roles tied to prototyping or manufacturing floor work are almost always on-site. About 49% of design engineer openings tied to Phoenix are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, with the remote share concentrated in electronics and systems design rather than mechanical or tooling disciplines.
How can I get a design engineer job in Phoenix with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Phoenix is targeting junior or associate design engineer roles at mid-size aerospace suppliers and electronics manufacturers in Chandler and Tempe, which hire more entry-level talent than the large defense primes. Co-op programs at Arizona State University feed directly into several local employers. Building a portfolio of CAD work or personal fabrication projects and pursuing certification in SolidWorks or Altium meaningfully strengthens a candidate with limited professional history in this market.
Which industries hire the most design engineers in Phoenix?
Most design engineer openings in Phoenix sit in Electronics & Hardware, Consulting & Professional Services, and Construction & Real Estate, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Phoenix's position as a hub for semiconductor fabrication, defense and aerospace manufacturing, and utility-scale energy infrastructure creates sustained, year-round hiring demand across all three sectors.
