Design Engineer Jobs in Tempe: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a design engineer job in Tempe?
Focus your search on Tempe's semiconductor, aerospace, and advanced manufacturing employers, which drive the highest volume of design engineer openings locally. The Price Road tech corridor and Rio Salado area are the densest hiring zones. Candidates with experience in CAD-based design, systems integration, or electromechanical prototyping move fastest in this market. Connecting with engineering programs tied to Arizona State University also opens doors to Tempe-based employers who recruit there regularly.
Which companies hire design engineers in Tempe?
Companies currently hiring design engineers in Tempe include Viasat, Renesas, and SRP, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Tempe's employer mix skews toward semiconductor equipment manufacturers, defense and aerospace suppliers, and mid-size industrial technology firms with established local engineering teams.
Are there remote design engineer jobs in Tempe?
Yes, though design engineer roles are less remote-friendly than purely analytical positions because hands-on prototyping, lab access, and hardware iteration are central to the work. About 47% of design engineer openings tied to Tempe are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, and those tend to cluster in systems design, documentation-heavy engineering, and software-adjacent product roles rather than physical fabrication or test work.
How can I get a design engineer job in Tempe with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Tempe is through internships or co-op roles at semiconductor and aerospace firms near the Arizona State University campus, which actively recruit early-career engineers. Titles like junior design engineer, engineering associate, or test engineering technician are common entry points at local manufacturers. Building a portfolio of CAD models, circuit designs, or capstone projects gives Tempe employers something concrete to evaluate before a formal hire.
Which industries hire the most design engineers in Tempe?
The sectors hiring the most design engineers in Tempe are Consulting & Professional Services, Electronics & Hardware, and Telecommunications, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Tempe's position as a hub for semiconductor manufacturing, defense supply chain work, and university-linked technology commercialization keeps demand for design engineers concentrated in those fields year over year.
