Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding E-3 Visa Sponsorship as an Automation Project Manager
Document your engineering degree equivalency early
Australian three-year bachelor's degrees are generally accepted as equivalent to U.S. four-year degrees, but get a credential evaluation before applying. Consulates and employers sometimes request formal equivalency documentation for technical project management roles.
Target employers with active DOL LCA filings
Search the DOL's Office of Foreign Labor Certification disclosure data for companies that have filed LCAs for project manager or automation engineering roles. Prior LCA filings signal that an employer understands E-3 sponsorship mechanics and won't stall on the process.
Clarify the specialty occupation case in your offer letter
Automation Project Manager roles can attract consular scrutiny if the job description blends general management with technical duties. Ask your employer to specify in the offer letter that a degree in engineering or a related technical field is required, not just preferred.
Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service for LCA and consulate prep
Once you have an offer, use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to handle your LCA and visa paperwork end-to-end. The LCA must be DOL-certified before your consulate appointment, and errors at that stage can delay your start date by weeks.
Ask about third-party worksite arrangements upfront
Many automation project management roles place you at a client's facility, not the direct employer's office. The LCA must list the actual worksite location, so confirm with your employer whether any client sites are involved before the LCA is filed with DOL.
Prepare for nonimmigrant intent questions at the consulate
The E-3 requires demonstrating nonimmigrant intent at each renewal. If you're married to a U.S. citizen or have taken steps toward permanent residency, expect direct questions. Have a clear, honest account of your long-term plans ready before your interview.

Find Automation Project Manager JobsAutomation Project Manager E-3 Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Automation Project Manager jobs with E-3 visa sponsorship?
Search Migrate Mate to find Automation Project Manager roles where employers are open to E-3 visa sponsorship. Standard job searches rarely filter by visa type, so you can waste significant time applying to roles where sponsorship was never on the table. Migrate Mate surfaces positions matched to E-3 eligibility specifically for Australian professionals.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does an Automation Project Manager role qualify as a specialty occupation for the E-3?
Yes, provided the role requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a specific technical field such as electrical engineering, systems engineering, or computer science. The risk is when job descriptions use generic management language without specifying a degree requirement. If the posting says 'bachelor's preferred' rather than 'required,' the consular officer may question whether the role genuinely qualifies. Your employer should tighten the job description before the LCA is filed.
How does the E-3 compare to the H-1B for Automation Project Manager roles?
The E-3 is available year-round with no lottery and no annual cap, while the H-1B requires entering a randomised lottery in April with roughly a 25% selection rate in recent years. For Australian professionals, the E-3 is far more predictable. Both visas require an employer-sponsored LCA and a specialty occupation determination, so the documentation burden is similar, but the E-3 timeline is entirely within your and your employer's control.
Can I change employers or projects while on an E-3 as an Automation Project Manager?
You can change employers, but your new employer must file a fresh LCA and you'll need a new E-3 visa stamp if you travel internationally before starting. There's no portability rule like the one that exists for H-1B holders under AC21. If your role shifts to a different worksite or changes significantly in scope, the LCA may also need to be updated with DOL to reflect the new conditions.
