Frame your Australian credentials correctly
A three-year Australian bachelor's degree in legal studies or paralegal studies satisfies the E-3 visa specialty occupation requirement. Confirm your transcript shows a field-specific degree, not a general arts degree with legal electives, before applying.
Target law firms with established LCA filings
U.S. law firms that have sponsored foreign workers before have HR teams familiar with the LCA process. Search DOL disclosure data to identify firms that have filed LCAs for paralegal roles in your target city.
Address specialty occupation in your cover letter
USCIS scrutinizes whether corporate paralegal roles require a specific degree, not just any bachelor's. Your cover letter should explain how your legal studies degree directly supports the role's responsibilities, not just that you hold a degree.
Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service end-to-end
Once you have an offer, use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to handle your LCA and visa paperwork from start to consulate appointment. Paralegal roles sometimes draw specialty occupation questions, and having a dedicated expert manage the filing reduces that risk.
Clarify E-3 timelines before your offer deadline
The DOL typically certifies an LCA within seven business days, and consulate appointments at Sydney, Melbourne, or Perth can often be scheduled within weeks. Knowing this timeline lets you negotiate a realistic start date with the employer.
Confirm the employer understands E-3 responsibilities
Some U.S. firms assume all foreign national hiring involves the H-1B lottery and decline before exploring alternatives. Explain that the E-3 requires only an LCA filing and a consulate appointment, with no lottery and no multi-month USCIS wait.
E-3 Visa Corporate Paralegal: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find corporate paralegal jobs that offer E-3 visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for Australian professionals searching for E-3 sponsorship roles. You can filter by job title and location to find corporate paralegal positions at employers with a history of sponsoring foreign nationals. Many firms that sponsor H-1B workers will also sponsor E-3 applicants, since the process is significantly simpler for them.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does a corporate paralegal role qualify as a specialty occupation for the E-3?
Yes, provided the employer's job description requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a specific field such as legal studies or paralegal studies. Roles where any bachelor's degree satisfies the requirement regardless of field can face scrutiny. The stronger your degree-to-role alignment, the cleaner the specialty occupation case.
How does the E-3 compare to the H-1B for corporate paralegal roles?
The E-3 has no lottery, no annual cap, and no multi-month USCIS processing wait for most applicants. The H-1B requires entering a randomized lottery with roughly a one-in-four selection chance. For Australian nationals, the E-3 is far more predictable and can often result in a visa stamp within four to six weeks of receiving a job offer.
What happens to my E-3 status if I change employers mid-sponsorship?
Your E-3 is tied to a specific employer, so changing jobs requires your new employer to file a fresh LCA with DOL and you to attend a new consulate appointment. There's no portability provision as with some other visa categories. Plan any employer transition carefully to avoid gaps in authorized work status.
