Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding E-3 Visa Sponsorship as an Emergency Department Registered Nurse
Get your NCLEX and credentials verified early
Your Australian nursing registration doesn't automatically transfer. Sit the NCLEX-RN and have your credentials evaluated through a state board before applying, since U.S. hospital HR teams won't advance your application without an active RN license or a clear pathway to one.
Target hospital systems with existing E-3 infrastructure
Large academic medical centers and Level I trauma centers file LCAs regularly and have HR teams familiar with E-3 visa sponsorship. Community hospitals often haven't sponsored an E-3 before, which can slow the process significantly even when they're willing.
Clarify sponsorship intent before your ED interview
ED nursing interviews move quickly to offers. Ask the recruiter directly whether their legal team has filed E-3 LCAs before, not just H-1B visa petitions. The employer's LCA obligation includes prevailing wage compliance, so confirm they understand DOL requirements upfront.
Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service for your LCA and paperwork
Once you have a job offer, Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service handles the LCA submission to DOL, prepares your DS-160 and visa application, and gets you ready for your consulate appointment in Sydney, Melbourne, or Perth, so nothing stalls between offer and start date.
Secure ACLS and TNCC certifications before you negotiate
U.S. emergency departments frequently require Advanced Cardiac Life Support and Trauma Nursing Core Course certification as conditions of employment. Having these before your offer strengthens your negotiating position and removes a common post-offer delay that can push back your start date.
Understand how E-3 status interacts with your license portability
Your E-3 visa is tied to a specific employer and state. If you relocate or change hospitals mid-visa cycle, your employer must file a new LCA with DOL and you'll need to update your RN license for the new state, which can take weeks.
E-3 Visa Emergency Department Registered Nurse: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Emergency Department RN jobs with E-3 visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for Australian professionals seeking E-3 sponsorship in the U.S. You can search for Emergency Department RN roles by filtering for employers with active E-3 or LCA filing history, which saves you from cold-applying to hospitals that have never sponsored an Australian nurse before.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does an Emergency Department RN role qualify as a specialty occupation for the E-3?
Yes. USCIS treats registered nursing as a specialty occupation when the position requires at minimum a bachelor's degree in nursing, which is standard for ED roles at U.S. hospitals. If a hospital lists a diploma or associate degree as acceptable, that posting may not support an E-3 application, so confirm the degree requirement before proceeding.
How does the E-3 compare to the H-1B for Australian ED nurses?
The E-3 has a 10,500 annual cap that has never been exhausted, so there's no lottery and you can apply any time of year. The H-1B has a heavily oversubscribed lottery with a roughly 25% selection rate. For Australian RNs, the E-3 is a direct path without the uncertainty, and it renews indefinitely in two-year increments as long as you hold a qualifying ED position.
Can I switch hospitals or relocate to another state while on an E-3?
You can change employers, but your new hospital must file a fresh LCA with DOL before you start work. Relocating to a different state also requires a new state RN license, which varies in processing time by state. Plan for at least four to eight weeks between your last day at one employer and your first day at the next to allow for LCA certification and license transfer.
