Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding E-3 Visa Sponsorship as an Engineering Leader
Frame your credentials around specialty occupation
Australian engineering degrees are accepted as equivalent to U.S. four-year degrees, but your resume needs to show the field-specific match. Align your discipline explicitly to the job title so the DOL LCA and consular officer see a clear degree-to-role connection.
Target employers with active E-3 filing history
Search DOL LCA disclosure data to identify companies that have certified E-3 applications for engineering or technical leadership roles. Prior E-3 filing experience means the employer already understands the process, which shortens your sponsorship conversation significantly.
Clarify the scope of your leadership role early
Roles titled Engineering Leader can span individual-contributor-plus to VP-level. Consular officers scrutinize whether the position genuinely requires a specialty degree. Get the job description to specify technical depth, not just team management, before the LCA is filed.
Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service after your offer
Once you have a signed offer, use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to handle your LCA and visa paperwork end-to-end, from DOL certification through consulate appointment preparation. This avoids the common delays that come from employers filing LCAs without prior E-3 experience.
Request the LCA before resigning your current role
The DOL typically certifies an LCA within seven business days. Ask your new employer to initiate filing immediately after offer acceptance so you have a certified LCA in hand before you give notice, reducing your exposure to gaps in work authorization.
Negotiate the E-3 prevailing wage into your offer discussions
Your employer must pay the higher of the prevailing wage or actual wage for your role and location under the LCA. Pull the USCIS and DOL prevailing wage data for your specific SOC code and metro area before finalizing your offer, so the LCA reflects market-rate compensation.

Find Engineering Leader JobsEngineering Leader E-3 Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Engineering Leader jobs that offer E-3 visa sponsorship?
Use Migrate Mate to search Engineering Leader roles filtered specifically for E-3 visa sponsorship. Most general job boards don't distinguish between visa types, so you waste time approaching employers who only sponsor H-1B or won't sponsor at all. Migrate Mate surfaces roles from employers with confirmed E-3 filing history, so your applications go to companies already set up to hire Australian professionals.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does an Engineering Leader role qualify as a specialty occupation for the E-3?
Yes, if the position requires a bachelor's degree in a specific technical or engineering discipline, it qualifies as a specialty occupation. The key is that the job description must tie the degree requirement to the actual duties. Roles where any degree satisfies the requirement, regardless of field, are harder to support. Titles that combine technical leadership with defined engineering responsibilities, like engineering management or principal engineer, are typically straightforward to certify.
How does the E-3 compare to the H-1B for an Engineering Leader position?
The E-3 is available year-round with no lottery, while H-1B has an annual cap and a registration lottery that selects roughly one in four applicants. For an Australian Engineering Leader, the E-3 is the faster and more predictable path. Processing from LCA filing to a visa stamp at an Australian consulate typically takes two to four weeks when no complications arise, compared to H-1B timelines that run six months or longer even with premium processing.
Can I transfer my E-3 to a new Engineering Leader role if I change employers?
Yes, but you need a new LCA certified by the DOL and a new visa stamp at an Australian consulate before starting with the new employer. The E-3 is employer-specific and does not port like an H-1B under AC21. If you're already in the U.S., you'll typically need to travel to Australia for your new consular interview unless you qualify for a same-employer renewal at a U.S. consulate abroad.
