Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding E-3 Visa Sponsorship as a Front End Software Engineer
Verify your degree field aligns with the role
The E-3 visa requires your degree to match the specialty occupation. A computer science or software engineering degree maps cleanly to front end roles, but an unrelated degree could trigger an RFE. Gather your transcripts and, if needed, a credential evaluation before you start applying.
Target employers with active LCA filing history
Search DOL's OFLC disclosure data for employers who have previously filed Labor Condition Applications for front end or software engineering roles. Prior LCA activity signals the employer's HR team understands the E-3 process and won't stall at the sponsorship stage.
Search for E-3 sponsorship jobs on Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to find front end engineering roles where employers have confirmed E-3 sponsorship. Filtering by visa type saves you from applying to roles where sponsorship is uncertain and then having to walk the employer through the process from scratch.
Ask about the LCA timeline before accepting an offer
Your employer files the LCA with DOL before your consulate appointment. DOL certifies most applications within seven business days, but some employers are unfamiliar with this step. Confirm your hiring manager has looped in HR or legal before you book flights or give notice in Australia.
Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to handle your LCA and visa paperwork
Once you have a signed offer, Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service manages the LCA, DS-160, and consulate preparation end-to-end. This is useful when your employer's legal team is slow or when you're coordinating the process from Australia before your start date.
Prepare a portfolio that demonstrates specialty occupation depth
Consular officers sometimes probe whether a front end role genuinely requires a degree-level skill set. A portfolio showing complex architecture decisions, frameworks like React or Vue, and system-level work strengthens your case that the role isn't entry-level web production.
E-3 Visa Front End Software Engineer: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Front End Software Engineer jobs that offer E-3 visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is the most direct way to find front end engineering roles with confirmed E-3 sponsorship. General job boards list roles without indicating whether the employer will sponsor an E-3, which means you can spend weeks in a process only to find the company won't file. Migrate Mate filters specifically for E-3-sponsoring employers so you start with qualified leads.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does a Front End Software Engineer role qualify as a specialty occupation for the E-3?
Yes, front end software engineering qualifies as a specialty occupation under the E-3 because the role normally requires at least a bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or a directly related field. The key is that your degree must align with the position. A degree in an unrelated discipline without compensating work experience can complicate the application, so gather documentation showing the connection between your credentials and the role before you apply.
How does the E-3 compare to the H-1B for Front End Software Engineer roles?
The E-3 is available only to Australian nationals, but within that constraint it's significantly more practical than the H-1B visa for front end engineers. There's no annual lottery, no numerical cap that fills up, and no waiting period tied to a fiscal year. You can receive an offer in any month and proceed to your consulate appointment without competing for a slot. H-1B requires registration in April and selection by lottery, which means you could wait a year or more before starting work legally.
What happens to my E-3 status if I'm laid off or change employers as a Front End Software Engineer?
Your E-3 status is tied to a specific employer and role, so a layoff or job change requires a new LCA and a new visa application or change of status. There's no formal grace period written into E-3 regulations, though CBP typically allows a short period for transition. If you're changing employers, your new employer must file a fresh LCA with DOL before you begin work, so start that process as soon as you have a signed offer to avoid any gap in authorized employment.
