E-3 Visa Legal Associate Jobs
Legal Associate roles in the U.S. qualify as E-3 specialty occupations when tied to a J.D. or equivalent law degree. Australian lawyers can secure E-3 visa sponsorship without entering a lottery, with no annual cap to worry about and two-year renewals available for as long as you hold a qualifying position.

Verify your degree meets U.S. requirements
Australian law degrees are assessed differently by U.S. employers. A three-year LLB generally satisfies the E-3 visa bachelor's requirement, but some firms ask for credential evaluations confirming U.S. equivalency before they'll file your LCA.
Target law firms with active LCA filings
Search the DOL's Foreign Labor Application Gateway to confirm a firm has filed LCAs for Legal Associate roles before. Firms with no prior filing history often underestimate the process and stall after extending an offer.
Clarify bar admission status early in interviews
U.S. employers distinguish between licensed attorneys and legal associates doing non-practice work. Knowing which category your role falls into shapes how the LCA job description gets written and whether state bar rules affect your duties.
Request the offer letter before LCA filing starts
Your employer needs a finalised job title, salary, and worksite address to file the LCA with USCIS. Gaps between the offer letter and LCA details can delay certification, so push for written terms before the DOL submission begins.
Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service for the full process
Legal Associate sponsorship involves LCA certification, DS-160 preparation, and consulate scheduling. Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service manages the entire process from offer to consulate appointment, reducing errors that come from employers handling it in-house for the first time.
Search for E-3 sponsorship roles through Migrate Mate
Most Legal Associate roles with E-3 sponsorship aren't labelled as such in standard job postings. Migrate Mate filters roles by verified E-3 sponsorship history, so you're targeting employers who already understand the process.
E-3 Visa Legal Associate: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Legal Associate jobs with E-3 visa sponsorship?
Use Migrate Mate to search Legal Associate roles filtered by confirmed E-3 sponsorship history. Most firms don't label postings with visa information, so searching through a platform that surfaces sponsorship-eligible employers directly saves significant time and avoids applying to firms that won't support the process.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does a Legal Associate role qualify as a specialty occupation for the E-3?
Yes, provided the position normally requires a bachelor's degree or higher in law or a related field. Roles focused on legal research, contract review, litigation support, or compliance analysis routinely satisfy this standard. If the job description allows any bachelor's degree regardless of field, the specialty occupation threshold may not be met and the LCA filing could face scrutiny.
How does the E-3 visa compare to H-1B for Australian lawyers?
The E-3 has no annual cap and no lottery, so your employer can file at any time of year without the uncertainty of a random selection. The H-1B visa cap-subject process runs once a year and carries no guarantee of selection. For Australian nationals in Legal Associate roles, the E-3 is a direct path that doesn't depend on timing or luck.
Can I transfer my E-3 to a different law firm if I change jobs?
You can move to a new employer, but the E-3 doesn't transfer automatically. Your new firm must file a fresh LCA with the DOL and you'll need a new visa stamp before re-entering the U.S. or, in some cases, a change of status if you're already inside the country. Planning this transition before your current visa expires avoids gaps in authorised work status.
