Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding E-3 Visa Sponsorship as a Maintenance Specialist
Verify your degree supports specialty occupation
The E-3 visa requires your role to qualify as a specialty occupation, meaning a bachelor's degree in a specific field must be the normal entry requirement. Facilities or engineering management degrees map cleanly; a general trades background alone does not satisfy USCIS standards.
Target employers with existing E-3 LCA history
Search DOL's Foreign Labor Application Gateway (FLAG) to identify companies that have filed Labor Condition Applications for maintenance or facilities roles. Employers who've done this before understand the process and won't treat E-3 sponsorship as an unknown risk.
Prepare a U.S.-format resume with credential translations
Australian qualifications, apprenticeships, and trade certifications need framing that U.S. hiring managers recognize. Map your credentials to equivalent U.S. standards and emphasize degree-level education explicitly, since recruiters unfamiliar with the Australian system may overlook relevant qualifications.
Clarify the LCA wage requirement before negotiating
Your employer must certify through DOL that your offered wage meets the prevailing wage for your role and location. Request the specific SOC code they intend to use before salary discussions so you're negotiating around a figure the LCA can actually support.
Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service for the paperwork
Once you have a signed offer letter, use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to handle your LCA and visa paperwork from start to consulate appointment. This avoids the coordination errors that commonly delay maintenance roles, where employers may have facilities teams but no in-house immigration expertise.
Address multi-site work arrangements in your visa documents
Maintenance Specialists often rotate across multiple facilities or client sites. Each primary worksite must be covered by a separate LCA, so confirm with your employer which locations are included before the DOL filing to prevent status complications after you arrive.
E-3 Visa Maintenance Specialist: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Maintenance Specialist jobs that offer E-3 visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for Australian professionals searching for E-3 sponsorship roles. Standard job boards don't filter by visa type, so you waste time on listings where the employer has never considered E-3 sponsorship. Migrate Mate surfaces Maintenance Specialist positions at employers who have a demonstrated history of sponsoring Australian workers on the E-3.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does a Maintenance Specialist role actually qualify for the E-3 visa?
It depends on how the role is defined. The E-3 requires a specialty occupation, meaning the position must normally require at least a bachelor's degree in a specific field. A Maintenance Specialist role grounded in facilities engineering, mechanical systems, or industrial maintenance with a relevant degree attached will qualify. A purely trade-based role without a degree requirement typically won't meet USCIS's specialty occupation standard.
How does the E-3 compare to the H-1B for Maintenance Specialist roles?
The E-3 is available exclusively to Australian citizens and has no lottery, no annual cap, and no registration fee. The H-1B visa involves a randomized lottery with a roughly one-in-four selection rate. For an Australian Maintenance Specialist with a qualifying degree and a U.S. job offer, the E-3 is a direct path that the H-1B cannot reliably offer. Both visas require specialty occupation qualification, so the degree and role requirements are comparable.
Can my E-3 cover multiple worksites if my maintenance role is across facilities?
Yes, but each primary worksite requires its own certified Labor Condition Application filed with the DOL before you begin work there. If your employer has facilities in different metropolitan areas, each location needs a separate LCA reflecting the prevailing wage for that area. Short-term travel to secondary sites may fall within a worksite flexibility provision, but regular rotation across facilities requires proper LCA coverage for each.
