Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding E-3 Visa Sponsorship as a Mobile Engineer
Align your degree to the role
U.S. consular officers assess whether your Australian degree field directly matches your mobile engineering duties. A three-year bachelor's in computer science or software engineering is accepted as equivalent to a four-year U.S. degree for E-3 visa purposes.
Target employers with LCA filing history
Search the DOL's Office of Foreign Labor Certification disclosure data to identify which companies have filed Labor Condition Applications for mobile or software engineering roles. Past LCA filings confirm the employer already understands the E-3 sponsorship process.
Clarify the specialty occupation question early
Some mobile engineer job descriptions list a degree as preferred rather than required, which can disqualify the role for E-3 purposes. Before accepting an offer, confirm the job description explicitly states a bachelor's degree in a specific field is a minimum requirement.
Handle the LCA before your interview date
Your employer must obtain a certified LCA from the DOL before your consulate appointment. DOL certification typically takes seven business days, so raise this with your hiring manager the moment you accept the offer. Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to handle your LCA and visa paperwork without delays.
Prepare your portfolio for specialty occupation proof
Consular officers may request evidence that your role involves theoretical and practical application of highly specialised knowledge. A portfolio showing architecture decisions, technical documentation, or cross-platform framework implementations strengthens the specialty occupation argument for mobile engineering positions.
Use Migrate Mate to find verified sponsoring employers
Searching broadly wastes time on employers who won't sponsor. Migrate Mate filters mobile engineer roles to companies with active E-3 sponsorship history, so every application you send goes to an employer already equipped to file.
E-3 Visa Mobile Engineer: Frequently Asked Questions
Where can I find Mobile Engineer jobs with E-3 visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is the recommended starting point. It surfaces mobile engineer roles at employers with verified E-3 sponsorship history, so you're not wasting time applying to companies unfamiliar with the process. Because the E-3 has no annual cap or lottery, any employer willing to sponsor can file at any time of year, which opens up hiring windows that H-1B visa candidates can't access.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does a Mobile Engineer role qualify as a specialty occupation for the E-3 visa?
Yes, provided the job requires at minimum a bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or a closely related field. The key is the job description: if the employer lists a degree as preferred rather than required, the role may not meet the specialty occupation standard. Roles involving iOS, Android, React Native, or Flutter development typically qualify when the position description is written correctly.
How does the E-3 visa compare to the H-1B for Mobile Engineers?
For Australian mobile engineers, the E-3 is substantially more practical. The H-1B is subject to an annual cap of 65,000 regular slots and a competitive lottery, meaning selection isn't guaranteed regardless of qualifications. The E-3 has a 10,500 annual allocation that has never been exhausted, so there's no lottery and no wait. Your employer can file at any point after you have a job offer and a certified LCA.
Can I switch mobile engineering jobs while on an E-3 visa?
Yes, but each new employer must file a fresh LCA and you'll need a new E-3 visa stamp to re-enter the U.S. after travel, or pursue a change of status if you're already inside the country. There's no portability provision like the one available under certain H-1B rules, so start the process with the new employer before your current visa period ends to avoid a gap in authorisation.
