Translate your Australian degree for employers
A three-year Australian bachelor's in computer science is generally accepted as equivalent to a U.S. four-year degree for E-3 visa specialty occupation purposes. Have a credential evaluation ready before your first interview to head off employer hesitation.
Target companies with active LCA filing history
Search the DOL's Office of Foreign Labor Certification disclosure data for employers who have filed LCAs for iOS or mobile engineering roles. Prior LCA activity signals the hiring team already understands the E-3 process and won't stall at the offer stage.
Confirm the job title maps to a specialty occupation
Titles like 'iOS Developer' or 'Mobile Engineer' qualify, but vague titles such as 'Tech Generalist' can invite scrutiny. Ask your hiring contact to align the official job title and description to a standard SOC code before the LCA is filed.
Negotiate who handles the LCA filing timeline
DOL certifies LCAs within seven business days in most cases, but employer HR teams unfamiliar with the process often delay submission. Clarify at the offer stage who is filing and set a deadline so your start date isn't pushed back by an administrative backlog.
Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service for end-to-end support
Once you have a signed offer, use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to handle your LCA and visa paperwork through to consulate appointment. This is especially useful if your employer has never sponsored an E-3 before and lacks an immigration team.
Prepare for nonimmigrant intent questions at the consulate
E-3 is a nonimmigrant visa, so consular officers will assess your ties to Australia. Bring documentation of ongoing financial, professional, or family connections at home alongside your employment offer letter and LCA approval.
E-3 Visa Ios Software Engineer: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find iOS Software Engineer jobs with E-3 visa sponsorship?
Use Migrate Mate to search iOS Software Engineer roles filtered specifically for E-3 sponsorship. Many U.S. tech employers are open to E-3 but don't advertise it explicitly because the visa requires relatively little from the employer compared to H-1B visa. Migrate Mate surfaces companies with active LCA filing history so you can focus your applications where sponsorship is already established.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does an iOS Software Engineer role qualify as a specialty occupation for the E-3?
Yes. iOS Software Engineer roles require at least a bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or a closely related field, which satisfies the specialty occupation definition. The key is that the job description must reflect a theoretical and practical application of highly specialized knowledge. Generic or broad engineering titles can create problems, so confirm the SOC code with your employer before the LCA is filed.
How does the E-3 compare to the H-1B for iOS Software Engineer roles?
The E-3 is available exclusively to Australian citizens and has a 10,500 annual cap that has never been fully used, so there is no lottery. H-1B has an 85,000 annual cap with a heavily oversubscribed lottery, meaning many qualified iOS engineers are not selected. For Australians, the E-3 offers a more predictable and faster path into U.S. employment without the randomness of the H-1B registration process.
Can I switch iOS engineering employers on an E-3 without losing status?
You can change employers, but the new company must file a fresh LCA with the DOL and you'll need a new E-3 visa stamp before or upon re-entering the U.S. There is no portability provision like the one that exists for H-1B holders under AC21. If you are already inside the U.S., coordinate your transition carefully so you don't work for the new employer before the LCA is certified.
