E-3 Visa IT Programmer Jobs
IT Programmer roles in the U.S. qualify as specialty occupations under the E-3 visa, making sponsorship straightforward for Australian nationals with a relevant bachelor's degree. The E-3 has no lottery, no annual cap, and renews in two-year increments, so your employer avoids the H-1B visa backlog entirely.

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding E-3 Visa Sponsorship in IT Programmer
Align your degree to your exact role
U.S. consular officers check that your specific degree field matches the programmer role on offer. A general IT degree supporting a backend Python role is fine; a business degree is not. Confirm the match before applying.
Target employers with active LCA history
Search the DOL's Office of Foreign Labor Certification disclosure data to find companies that have filed LCAs for programmer roles before. Prior filings signal an internal process already exists, cutting your time to offer acceptance.
Request an employer-specific LCA early
The LCA must name your specific employer and worksite before your visa application proceeds. If your offer involves multiple client sites, the employer can file a blanket LCA covering those locations to avoid refiling with each assignment change.
Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service end to end
Once you have a signed offer, use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to handle your LCA, DS-160, and consulate preparation. The service manages the sequence so nothing is submitted out of order, which is where most self-filed applications stall.
Prepare a portfolio demonstrating specialty knowledge
Consular officers can question whether a role genuinely requires a degree. A concise portfolio showing language-specific or systems-level work, not just job titles, directly addresses that scrutiny and strengthens your specialty occupation argument.
Clarify contractor arrangements before your interview
If your employer places you with a third-party client, USCIS and consular officers may probe whether the employer controls your day-to-day work. Get written confirmation of the employer-employee relationship in your offer letter before your consulate appointment.
E-3 Visa IT Programmer: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find IT Programmer jobs with E-3 visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate filters programmer roles by E-3 sponsorship eligibility, so you're not sifting through listings from employers who don't sponsor. Because the E-3 has no lottery, employers who have ruled out H-1B sponsorship due to cap risk are often open to E-3 arrangements once they understand the process.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does an IT Programmer role qualify as a specialty occupation for the E-3?
Yes, provided the role requires a bachelor's degree in a specific field such as computer science, software engineering, or information technology. Roles described as requiring any bachelor's degree regardless of field can face scrutiny. Your job offer letter should specify the required degree discipline, not just list a degree as preferred.
How does the E-3 compare to the H-1B for IT Programmer roles?
The E-3 has no annual lottery and no cap backlog, so your employer can sponsor you at any point in the year. H-1B registration opens once annually in March and selection is random. For Australian programmers, this means the E-3 is a direct path to starting work, while H-1B often means waiting up to 12 months after registration.
Can I change IT employers while on an E-3 visa?
Yes, but your new employer must file a fresh LCA and you must obtain a new E-3 visa before starting work with them, unless you are changing status inside the U.S. There is no portability provision equivalent to H-1B's AC21 rule, so you cannot begin work at the new employer while the application is pending.
