About the job
Like Google's own ambitions, the work of a Software Engineer goes beyond just Search. Software Engineering Managers have not only the technical expertise to take on and provide technical leadership to major projects, but also manage a team of Engineers. You not only optimize your own code but make sure Engineers are able to optimize theirs. As a Software Engineering Manager you manage your project goals, contribute to product strategy and help develop your team. Teams work all across the company, in areas such as information retrieval, artificial intelligence, natural language processing, distributed computing, large-scale system design, networking, security, data compression, user interface design; the list goes on and is growing every day. Operating with scale and speed, our exceptional software engineers are just getting started - and as a manager, you guide the way.
With technical and leadership expertise, you manage engineers across multiple teams and locations, a large product budget and oversee the deployment of large-scale projects across multiple sites internationally.
In this role, you will create an ecosystem within Google where teams can effectively leverage location history, on-device platform components, and privacy/security frameworks to move from passive reporting to providing intelligent, predictive context that assists users proactively throughout their Maps journey.
The Geo team is focused on building the most accurate, comprehensive, and useful maps for our users, through products like Maps, Earth, Street View, Google Maps Platform, and more. Every month, more than a billion people rely on Maps services to explore the world and navigate their daily lives.
The Geo team also enables developers to use the power of Google Maps platforms to enhance their apps and websites. As they plot a course for the future of mapping, they are solving complex computer science problems, designing beautiful and intuitive product experiences, and improving our understanding of the real world.

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding E-3 Visa Sponsorship as a Senior Software Engineering
Translate your Australian degree credentials
A three-year Australian bachelor's in computer science or software engineering satisfies the E-3 specialty occupation requirement. Get a credential evaluation ready before applying, some U.S. employers ask for written confirmation that your degree is equivalent to a U.S. four-year degree.
Target companies with active LCA filing history
Search DOL's public Labor Condition Application disclosure data to identify tech employers who have filed LCAs for software engineering roles. This confirms the employer already understands the E-3 process and has sponsored Australian engineers before.
Flag E-3 eligibility early in recruiter conversations
Many U.S. tech recruiters default to assuming you need H-1B sponsorship. Clarifying you hold Australian citizenship and qualify for the E-3, which has no lottery and costs far less than an H-1B, often changes the conversation and removes the biggest sponsorship objection.
Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service for the offer stage
Once you have an offer, your employer needs to file an LCA with DOL and prepare consulate documents. Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to handle your LCA and visa paperwork so the process doesn't stall between offer acceptance and your start date.
Confirm your job title maps to a specialty occupation
Titles like 'Senior Software Engineer' clearly qualify, but vague titles like 'Technical Lead' or 'Senior Technologist' can create friction at the consulate. Ask your employer to use a specific, engineering-focused job title on the LCA to match your degree field directly.
Prepare for same-day consulate adjudication
E-3 visas are adjudicated at the consulate interview, there's no USCIS petition approval wait. Bring your original offer letter, certified LCA, and degree transcripts to your Sydney, Melbourne, or Perth interview. Missing any one document can result in administrative processing delays.

Find Senior Software Engineering JobsSenior Software Engineering E-3 Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Senior Software Engineering jobs with E-3 visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate lists Senior Software Engineering roles from U.S. employers with E-3 sponsorship history, so you're not cold-applying to companies unfamiliar with the visa. Filter by role and location, then reach out to employers who have already demonstrated willingness to sponsor Australian engineers through the E-3 process.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does Senior Software Engineering qualify as an E-3 specialty occupation?
Yes. Senior Software Engineering roles require a theoretical and practical application of highly specialized knowledge and a bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, software engineering, or a closely related field. USCIS and consular officers consistently recognize software engineering as a qualifying specialty occupation for E-3 purposes, provided the job description reflects degree-level technical requirements.
How does the E-3 visa compare to H-1B for software engineers?
The E-3 has no annual lottery and no numerical cap, meaning you can apply any time of year without competing for a limited pool of slots. H-1B selection is lottery-based with a roughly 25% selection rate for most applicants. For Australian engineers, the E-3 is faster to obtain, cheaper for employers to file, and renewable indefinitely in two-year increments.
Can I change employers or get promoted while on an E-3 visa?
Yes, but each new employer must file a fresh LCA with DOL and you'll need a new E-3 visa stamp before re-entering the U.S. if you travel internationally. Promotions or role changes within the same employer that materially change your job duties or location may also require an amended LCA. Plan the timing carefully around any international travel.
