Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding E-3 Visa Sponsorship in OR Tech
Translate your Australian credentials before applying
U.S. hiring managers recognize CST certification from the NBSTSA, not Australian theatre technician qualifications. Get a credential evaluation that maps your training to U.S. surgical tech standards before sending a single application.
Target hospital systems with active E-Verify enrollment
E-3 visa sponsorship requires employers to file an LCA with the DOL. Hospitals already enrolled in E-Verify are used to federal compliance processes and far less likely to stall when you raise the E-3 conversation in the interview stage.
Approach perioperative staffing firms directly
Surgical staffing agencies that place OR staff across multiple hospital contracts can sponsor your E-3 as your direct employer. This gives you faster placement than waiting on a single hospital's HR process to approve sponsorship.
Use Migrate Mate to search OR Tech roles with E-3 sponsorship
Most job boards don't filter by visa type, so you end up applying to roles where employers have never sponsored. Migrate Mate surfaces OR Tech positions from employers with E-3 sponsorship history, cutting out that guesswork entirely.
Negotiate your start date around LCA certification timelines
The DOL typically certifies an LCA within seven business days, but your consulate appointment adds weeks to that. Build at least six to eight weeks from signed offer to start date so your employer isn't scrambling and you aren't crossing the Pacific underprepared.
File your visa paperwork with Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service
Once you have an offer, use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to handle your LCA and visa paperwork end-to-end. Errors on the LCA or DS-160 are the most common reason OR Tech applicants face consulate delays.
E-3 Visa OR Tech: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find OR Tech jobs that offer E-3 visa sponsorship?
Most general job boards don't filter by visa sponsorship type, so you'll spend a lot of time applying to employers who've never sponsored. Migrate Mate is built specifically for this, letting you search OR Tech roles from employers with E-3 sponsorship history. That distinction matters because E-3 sponsorship requires an LCA filing, and employers unfamiliar with it often back out after an offer.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does an OR Tech role qualify as a specialty occupation for the E-3?
Yes, surgical technologist positions typically qualify because they require specialized post-secondary training in surgical instrumentation, sterile technique, and perioperative procedures. The E-3 specialty occupation standard doesn't require a four-year degree in every case, but your employer must demonstrate that the role normally requires a degree-level body of knowledge. Surgical tech associate or bachelor's programs, combined with relevant certifications, generally satisfy this.
How does the E-3 visa compare to the H-1B for OR Tech roles?
The E-3 is available only to Australian citizens, but it has no lottery and no annual cap, which means your employer can sponsor you at any time of year. The H-1B visa has an 85,000-slot annual cap and a lottery that gives most applicants roughly a one-in-four chance of selection. For an OR Tech role, the E-3 is the faster and more predictable path if you hold Australian citizenship.
Can I switch hospitals while on an E-3 as an OR Tech?
Yes, but your new employer must file a fresh LCA and you'll need a new DS-160 and consulate appointment or a change of status filing if you're already inside the U.S. There's no grace period built into the E-3 the way the H-1B has a 60-day rule, so coordinate the timing of your last day and your new employer's LCA certification carefully before you resign.
