Translate your AWS or Azure credentials
U.S. employers assess specialty occupation partly through credentials. Frame your certifications, AWS Solutions Architect, Azure DevOps Expert, CKA, as degree-equivalent evidence in your CV and LCA support letter to strengthen your sponsorship case.
Target companies with existing LCA history
Search DOL's Foreign Labor Application Gateway disclosure data for employers who have filed LCAs under SOC code 15-1244 (Network and Computer Systems Administrators) or 15-1252. Companies with repeat filings understand the E-3 process and won't stall at the sponsorship conversation.
Distinguish E-3 from H-1B in recruiter calls
Many U.S. recruiters assume Australian candidates need H-1B sponsorship. Clarify upfront that the E-3 has no lottery, no annual cap, and can be initiated in weeks. This removes the biggest objection before it becomes a dealbreaker.
Get your LCA prevailing wage tier right
DOL assigns prevailing wage levels I through IV for each role and metro area. Principal-level DevOps roles typically map to Level III or IV. Verify your offered salary meets the correct tier before signing an offer letter, since a miscategorised LCA causes delays.
Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service for the LCA
The LCA must be DOL-certified before your visa interview. Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to handle your LCA and visa paperwork, so your employer doesn't need to engage an immigration attorney and your timeline stays on track from offer to consulate appointment.
Prepare for specialty occupation scrutiny at the consulate
Consular officers sometimes question whether a DevOps role requires a bachelor's degree. Bring your offer letter, job description citing degree requirements, and any USCIS policy manual language supporting software infrastructure roles as specialty occupations. Documentation wins these discussions.
E-3 Visa Principal Devops Engineer: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Principal DevOps Engineer jobs with E-3 visa sponsorship?
Search Migrate Mate to filter Principal DevOps Engineer roles by employers who have active E-3 or LCA sponsorship history. General job boards show listings without sponsorship context, making it hard to know which employers will actually support an E-3. Migrate Mate surfaces roles where sponsorship is already part of the hiring picture, saving you from dead-end applications.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does a Principal DevOps Engineer role qualify as a specialty occupation for the E-3?
Yes. Principal DevOps Engineer roles require at least a bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, information technology, or a closely related field. USCIS recognises software and infrastructure engineering disciplines as specialty occupations. Your job description must explicitly state a degree requirement in a specific field, not a generic preference, so request that language from your employer before the LCA is filed.
How does the E-3 compare to the H-1B for a Principal DevOps Engineer?
The E-3 is available exclusively to Australian citizens and has no lottery, no annual cap, and no lottery registration fee. For a Principal DevOps Engineer, this means you can apply any time of year, start within weeks of a job offer, and renew indefinitely. The H-1B requires lottery selection, which in recent years has meant roughly a one-in-four chance of being picked, and the process takes months longer.
Can I switch employers or take a contractor role on the E-3?
You can switch employers, but each new employer must file a fresh LCA and your visa is tied to that specific position. A new consular appointment or change of status filing is required. Contract-to-hire arrangements work if the contracting company is the visa petitioner and the role meets specialty occupation standards, but third-party placement structures can complicate the DOL wage determination.
