E-3 Visa Professional Engineer Jobs
Professional Engineer roles in the U.S. are a strong fit for E-3 visa sponsorship because the position meets the specialty occupation requirement by definition. The E-3 has no lottery and no annual cap, so Australian engineers with a job offer can move quickly from offer to consulate appointment without competing for slots.

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding E-3 Visa Sponsorship as a Professional Engineer
Get your credentials assessed before applying
U.S. employers often ask whether an Australian three-year engineering degree meets the bachelor's equivalency standard. A credential evaluation from a NACES-member body confirms equivalency upfront and removes a common objection before it derails an offer.
Target employers with active state PE licensure programs
Companies that already sponsor PE licensure for staff understand professional credential requirements. Those firms are far more likely to understand E-3 visa sponsorship obligations and move through the LCA and visa process without needing education on each step.
Search for E-3 sponsorship roles on Migrate Mate
Migrate Mate filters engineering jobs by E-3 visa sponsorship history, so you're not cold-applying to roles where the employer has never heard of the visa. Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to handle your LCA and visa paperwork once you have an offer.
Confirm your job description references a specific engineering discipline
The DOL's LCA filing requires the role to map to a specific occupational classification. A generic 'engineer' title without a defined discipline can complicate LCA certification, so clarify the SOC code with your employer before the offer letter is finalised.
Ask your employer about prevailing wage tier early
The LCA your employer files with the DOL must certify a wage at or above the prevailing rate for your role and location. Knowing the tier before negotiating your salary avoids a situation where your agreed compensation falls below the DOL requirement at filing.
Time your visa appointment around project start dates
E-3 consulate appointments at Sydney, Melbourne, and Perth have varying wait times throughout the year. Once your LCA is certified, book your appointment immediately rather than waiting for an offer finalisation, since appointment slots can lag several weeks behind availability.
E-3 Visa Professional Engineer: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Professional Engineer jobs that offer E-3 visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate lists Professional Engineer roles specifically filtered for E-3 visa sponsorship, so you can focus on employers who already understand the visa and are prepared to file an LCA. Searching general job boards often surfaces roles where the employer has no E-3 experience, which adds delays and uncertainty to the offer process.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does a Professional Engineer role qualify as a specialty occupation for the E-3?
Yes. Professional engineering roles require at minimum a bachelor's degree in a specific engineering discipline, which satisfies the E-3 specialty occupation definition. The DOL's occupational classifications for engineers specify degree requirements explicitly, making LCA certification more straightforward for this role than for broader or less-defined positions.
How does the E-3 compare to the H-1B for Australian engineers?
The E-3 has a dedicated 10,500-annual allocation that has never been exhausted, so there's no lottery and no random selection. The H-1B visa subjects most applicants to a lottery with a roughly one-in-four selection rate in recent years. For Australian engineers, the E-3 means a direct path from job offer to consulate appointment, typically within weeks rather than the H-1B's October start date constraint.
Can I transfer my Australian PE registration to work as an engineer on an E-3?
Your Australian registration doesn't transfer directly, but it doesn't have to for E-3 purposes. The E-3 requires a degree in a relevant field, not a U.S. PE licence. State licensure is a separate professional requirement that varies by employer and project type. Many engineering roles, particularly in private-sector consulting and technology, don't require a licensed PE to work under E-3 status.
