Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding E-3 Visa Sponsorship as a Psychology
Verify your degree meets specialty occupation
Australian three-year psychology degrees are generally accepted as equivalent to a U.S. four-year bachelor's for E-3 purposes, but the role's job description must explicitly require a psychology degree, not just any bachelor's.
Target employers with existing LCA history
Search the DOL's OFLC disclosure database for employers who have previously filed Labor Condition Applications for psychology roles. Prior LCA filings signal a sponsor who understands the process and won't be starting from scratch.
Clarify licensure requirements before accepting offers
Many clinical and counseling psychology roles require a U.S. state license, which you can't obtain before arriving. Confirm with the employer whether the offer is conditional on licensure and what their timeline expectations are.
Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service for LCA and consulate prep
The LCA must be certified by DOL before your visa interview. Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to handle your LCA submission, visa paperwork, and consulate appointment preparation so nothing stalls at the last step.
Separate research and clinical roles when pitching sponsors
Employers in academic medical centers and hospitals distinguish between research psychologist roles and licensed clinical positions. Pitching your credentials to the right hiring manager reduces the chance of a blanket 'we don't sponsor' response.
Request a written job offer before the LCA is filed
Your employer needs a specific job title, SOC code, and prevailing wage level to file the LCA with DOL. Get the formal offer letter finalized first so the LCA reflects your actual role and wage, not a placeholder.

Find Psychology JobsPsychology E-3 Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Psychology jobs in the U.S. that offer E-3 visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for Australian professionals seeking E-3 sponsorship and filters roles by employers with active visa filing history. Beyond that, targeting academic medical centers, hospital systems, and behavioral health networks is productive because these organizations regularly hire specialized degree holders and have HR processes already set up for work visa sponsorship.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does the E-3 visa cover both clinical and research psychology roles?
Yes, provided the position requires a bachelor's degree or higher in psychology or a directly related field. Clinical psychologist, neuropsychologist, research scientist, and organizational psychologist roles all qualify when the job description specifies a psychology degree as a requirement, not just a preference. Roles where any degree field is accepted will not satisfy the specialty occupation standard.
How does the E-3 visa compare to the H-1B for Australian psychologists?
The E-3 is available only to Australian citizens and has no lottery, no annual cap, and can be renewed indefinitely in two-year increments. The H-1B is subject to an annual lottery with roughly a 25% selection rate, meaning most applicants wait years or are never selected. For Australians, the E-3 is the direct and predictable route into U.S. psychology roles without lottery risk.
Can I work as a psychologist in the U.S. without a state license on an E-3 visa?
You can enter the U.S. on an E-3 and begin employment, but most states require licensure to use the title 'psychologist' or to provide clinical services independently. Some employers hire on a supervised or research basis while you complete the licensure process. Clarify the role's license requirements and the employer's supervision structure before the offer is finalized.
