ABOUT THE JOB
Our thirst for technology is a part of everything we do. The Data Center Engineering team takes the physical design of our data centers into the future. Our lab mirrors a research and development department - cutting-edge strategies are born, tested and tested again. Along with a team of great minds, you take on complex topics like how we use power or how to run state-of-the-art, environmentally-friendly facilities. You're a visionary who optimizes for efficiencies and never stops seeking improvements - even small changes that can make a huge impact. You generate ideas, communicate recommendations to senior-level executives and drive implementation alongside facilities technicians.
With your technical expertise, you ensure compliance with codes and standards, develop infrastructure improvements and serve as an expert in your specialty (e.g., cooling, electrical).
Google's custom-designed machines and data centers constitute one of the largest, most efficient, and most powerful computing infrastructures in the world. As a Senior Staff Data Center Engineer and Technical Lead (TL) for the Data Hall Design team, you will be the primary technical authority steering the physical, electrical, and thermal architecture of our global fleet of hyperscale data halls. You will bridge the gap between hardware systems engineering, facility infrastructure (power and cooling), and construction execution that safeguard Google's global fleet. You will lead the team responsible for productization, standardization, and modularization of data center building shells, server halls, and the associated critical yard enclosures. In this leadership role, you will partner with cross-functional engineering, architecture, supply chain, and deployment teams to deliver scalable, factory-assembled solutions that drastically reduce field labor and accelerate capacity delivery worldwide.
Behind everything our users see online is the architecture built by the Technical Infrastructure team to keep it running. From developing and maintaining our data centers to building the next generation of Google platforms, we make Google's product portfolio possible. We're proud to be our engineers' engineers and love voiding warranties by taking things apart so we can rebuild them. We keep our networks up and running, ensuring our users have the best and fastest experience possible. Individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding E-3 Visa Sponsorship as a Senior Staff Data Engineer
Align your credentials to specialty occupation standards
DOL requires your degree field to directly relate to the data engineering role. A computer science or information systems degree maps cleanly, but a business degree with a data-heavy postgraduate qualification may need a credential evaluation letter to satisfy the specialty occupation requirement.
Target employers with active DOL LCA histories
Search the DOL's Foreign Labor Certification Data Center for employers who have previously certified LCAs for data engineering titles. Prior LCA filings signal that an employer understands the E-3 visa process and won't treat your sponsorship request as a novel legal exercise.
Distinguish your staff-level scope in application materials
Senior Staff Data Engineer roles involve cross-functional architecture decisions and mentorship, not just pipeline execution. Your resume and any supporting documentation should reflect that scope so the LCA job description accurately captures a position requiring a specific technical degree rather than general experience.
Negotiate LCA filing into your offer timeline
Your employer must obtain a certified LCA from the DOL before you can attend your consular appointment. Ask the hiring team to initiate the LCA the same week you receive your written offer so certification doesn't compress your start-date window.
Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to handle your LCA and visa paperwork
Senior Staff roles often require detailed job duty descriptions that satisfy DOL specialty occupation standards. Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service prepares the LCA, DS-160, and consulate documentation end-to-end so nothing in your packet understates the technical depth of the role.
Prepare for Australian degree equivalency questions at the consulate
Australian three-year bachelor's degrees are generally accepted as equivalent to U.S. four-year degrees for E-3 purposes, but consular officers can ask. Carry your official transcripts and, if your degree program ran three years, a credential evaluation from a NACES-member agency as supporting documentation.
E-3 Visa Senior Staff Data Engineer: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Senior Staff Data Engineer jobs that offer E-3 visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for Australian professionals searching for U.S. roles with E-3 sponsorship. You can filter by job title and visa type to surface employers who have a history of sponsoring Australian workers, which saves you from applying to companies that will decline sponsorship after an offer.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does a Senior Staff Data Engineer role qualify as a specialty occupation for the E-3?
Yes. Senior Staff Data Engineer positions require a bachelor's degree or higher in a specific technical field such as computer science, software engineering, or data science, which satisfies the DOL's specialty occupation definition. Roles that emphasize platform architecture, data modeling, and cross-team technical leadership have a strong qualification profile for E-3 purposes.
How does the E-3 compare to the H-1B for a Senior Staff Data Engineer?
The H-1B enters an annual lottery with roughly a one-in-four selection rate, meaning you could wait years before securing status. The E-3 has no lottery and an annual allocation of 10,500 that has never been filled, so an Australian with a qualifying job offer and degree can proceed directly to a consular appointment without any lottery risk.
Can I change employers or move to a contract role while on E-3 status as a data engineer?
You can change employers, but each new position requires a fresh LCA and a new E-3 visa stamp if you travel internationally before the change takes effect. Contract or consulting arrangements are permissible if the contracting entity is the legal employer on the LCA, but third-party staffing arrangements where the end client controls your day-to-day work can raise issues at the consulate.
