Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding E-3 Visa Sponsorship in Strategic Business Development
Frame your degree as field-specific
Business development roles get rejected when the LCA lists a generic requirement like 'any bachelor's degree.' Before applying, confirm the job description specifies a degree in business, marketing, economics, or a directly related field to satisfy the specialty occupation standard.
Target companies with existing LCA history
Search the DOL's public LCA disclosure data for employers who have filed under SOC codes for business development or sales management. Past LCA filings signal a company already understands the E-3 visa process and won't treat sponsorship as a legal novelty.
Separate your work authorization conversation
Raise E-3 sponsorship after a hiring manager has confirmed interest, not in your cover letter. Australian nationals on E-3 cost employers far less than H-1B sponsorship and involve no lottery, so a brief factual explanation at the offer stage usually resolves hesitation.
Address international client scope in your CV
U.S. employers hiring for strategic business development increasingly want cross-border deal experience. Highlight specific markets, partner negotiations, or revenue targets you owned in Australia or Asia-Pacific, since this directly justifies a degree-level role rather than a generalist sales position.
Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service for the LCA
Once you have an offer, use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to handle your LCA and visa paperwork. Employers unfamiliar with the DOL's prevailing wage rules or FLAG portal often stall at this stage, and a managed service keeps the timeline from slipping before your start date.
Carry your LCA copy across the border
At the U.S. port of entry, CBP officers can request your certified LCA alongside your E-3 visa. Business development roles sometimes prompt questions about third-party client sites, so having the certified document ready prevents delays if your work arrangements are non-standard.
E-3 Visa Strategic Business Development: Frequently Asked Questions
Where can I find Strategic Business Development jobs with E-3 sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for Australian professionals searching for U.S. roles that include E-3 visa sponsorship. Rather than filtering through general job boards where sponsorship status is unclear, Migrate Mate surfaces positions from employers who are open to the E-3 process, saving you the back-and-forth of asking companies to confirm their willingness to sponsor.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does a Strategic Business Development role qualify as a specialty occupation for the E-3?
It can, but the framing matters. The role must normally require at least a bachelor's degree in a specific field like business administration, economics, international relations, or marketing. A title of 'Strategic Business Development' attached to a role where any background qualifies will struggle. Ensure the job description ties the degree requirement to the actual duties before the employer files the LCA with DOL.
How does the E-3 compare to the H-1B for business development professionals?
The E-3 has no lottery, no annual cap pressure, and can be filed at any point in the year, which matters for business development roles where hiring moves on deal cycles rather than fixed calendars. H-1B registrations are capped at 85,000 annually and selected by lottery, meaning qualified candidates can wait years. For Australian nationals, the E-3 is a structurally simpler path to the same work authorization outcome.
Can I change employers or take on a new client-facing role while on E-3?
Yes, but each employer change requires a new LCA filed with DOL and a new E-3 visa if you travel internationally, or a status update if you're changing roles within the U.S. A promotion to a materially different position, such as moving from individual contributor to a regional director role, may also require a new filing to reflect the updated job duties and prevailing wage level.
