Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding E-3 Visa Sponsorship as a Technician
Verify your degree meets specialty occupation
E-3 eligibility requires the Technician role to demand a specific bachelor's degree, not just any degree. If your Australian three-year degree is in a directly relevant field like electrical engineering or biomedical science, USCIS will generally treat it as equivalent to a U.S. four-year degree.
Target employers with active LCA filing history
Search the DOL's Office of Foreign Labor Certification disclosure data to find employers who have filed Labor Condition Applications for Technician-level roles. Employers already in that system understand the process and are far less likely to withdraw an offer over sponsorship paperwork concerns.
Address specialty occupation before the offer stage
Many Technician job postings list a degree as preferred rather than required. Before accepting an offer, confirm the employer will write the role description to reflect that a degree in a specific field is genuinely necessary. A vague job description is the most common LCA complication for Technician applicants.
Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service for your paperwork
Once you have an offer, use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to handle your LCA and visa paperwork end-to-end. The LCA must be certified by DOL before your consulate appointment, and the sequencing matters. Getting that order wrong delays your start date.
Prepare a credential evaluation before interviewing
If your Technician credentials include a TAFE diploma, trade qualification, or a three-year degree supplemented by industry certifications, get a formal equivalency evaluation from a NACES-member organization before you start applying. Employers ask for it during the sponsorship discussion, not at offer stage.
Clarify E-3 vs H-1B with your employer early
Many U.S. employers default to H-1B and don't know the E-3 exists. Tell your hiring manager or HR contact directly that you're an Australian citizen eligible for an E-3, which skips the lottery entirely. Bring the USCIS E-3 visa page to the conversation if needed.

Find Technician JobsTechnician E-3 Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Technician jobs in the U.S. that offer E-3 visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically to surface U.S. Technician roles where employers are open to E-3 visa sponsorship for Australian nationals. Most general job boards don't filter by visa type or nationality, so you end up screening out irrelevant listings manually. Migrate Mate removes that step and connects you directly to roles where the E-3 pathway is already understood by the employer.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Do Technician roles actually qualify as specialty occupations under the E-3?
Some do and some don't. The E-3 requires the position to theoretically and practically require at least a bachelor's degree in a specific field. Technician roles in areas like biomedical equipment, avionics, electronics engineering, or IT systems often meet that threshold. General maintenance or trade technician roles that accept any background typically don't qualify. The job description, not the job title, determines eligibility.
Is the E-3 or H-1B better for Australian Technicians?
The E-3 is almost always the faster and more predictable path for Australian citizens. There's no annual cap, no lottery, and no wait for a registration window. H-1B selection is random and capped at 85,000 per year, meaning you could miss out entirely even with a valid offer. For Technician roles that qualify as specialty occupations, the E-3 is the practical first choice.
Can I change Technician employers after I'm already working on an E-3?
Yes, but the process restarts with the new employer. Your new employer files a fresh LCA with DOL and you'll need to attend a new consulate appointment in Australia or apply for a change of status if you're already in the U.S. You can't simply transfer your existing E-3 stamp to a new job. Start the paperwork as early as possible to avoid a gap in your authorization.
