Translate your Australian credentials for U.S. employers
A three-year Australian engineering or computer science degree is generally accepted as equivalent to a U.S. four-year bachelor's degree for E-3 visa purposes. Get a credential evaluation from a NACES-approved service before your first interview to remove any doubt upfront.
Target employers with active LCA filing history
Search the DOL's Office of Foreign Labor Certification disclosure data to identify companies that have previously filed Labor Condition Applications for Test Engineer or QA Engineer roles. Prior LCA history signals a sponsor who already understands the process.
Use Migrate Mate to find sponsored Test Engineer roles
Finding Test Engineer positions with confirmed E-3 sponsorship is faster when you search a platform built for it. Migrate Mate filters roles by visa sponsorship type, so you're not cold-screening job listings for Australian eligibility.
Clarify the specialty occupation case before your offer
Not every Test Engineer role qualifies as a specialty occupation. If the job description says a degree is preferred rather than required, USCIS can challenge the E-3 application. Ask the recruiter to confirm the role requires a bachelor's degree in a specific technical field.
Align your LCA job title with your actual duties
The DOL Standard Occupational Classification code on the LCA must match your real responsibilities. Mismatches between your offer letter, LCA job title, and daily work are a common audit trigger. Review the SOC code with your employer before the LCA is submitted.
File your E-3 paperwork before your current status expires
If you're changing employers or renewing, have your new employer start the LCA well before your current status ends. Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to handle your LCA and visa paperwork so nothing is submitted out of sequence.
E-3 Visa Test Engineer: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Test Engineer jobs with E-3 visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for Australian professionals searching for E-3-sponsored roles in the United States. Rather than scanning general job boards and guessing at sponsorship willingness, you can filter directly for Test Engineer positions where employers have confirmed they'll support the E-3 process, saving significant time in your search.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does a Test Engineer role qualify as an E-3 specialty occupation?
Yes, provided the position genuinely requires a bachelor's degree or higher in engineering, computer science, or a closely related field. Roles in embedded systems testing, software QA, and hardware verification typically qualify. Roles where any technical background suffices, or where the degree requirement isn't enforced, are more likely to face scrutiny from USCIS at the consulate stage.
How does the E-3 visa compare to H-1B for Test Engineers?
The E-3 has no annual cap and no lottery, so a qualified Australian Test Engineer can apply at any time of year and expect a decision based on their individual application, not a random draw. H-1B registrations for the same role face an oversubscribed lottery with roughly a one-in-four selection rate. The E-3 also allows consular processing in Australia, often faster than waiting for a change of status decision domestically.
Can I switch Test Engineer employers while on an E-3 visa?
You can change employers on an E-3, but your new employer must file a fresh LCA with the DOL and you'll need a new visa stamp reflecting the updated employer before you can continue working. There's no H-1B-style portability that lets you start work immediately upon filing. Plan for a gap in authorization and confirm the new employer is prepared to move quickly.
