Translate your Australian credentials for U.S. employers
Australian trade compliance experience maps directly to U.S. requirements, but your familiarity with EAR, ITAR, and OFAC sanctions frameworks matters more to hiring managers than AUSTRADE or DIBP experience. Highlight any export controls or dual-use goods work explicitly.
Target companies with active LCA filing history
Search the DOL's Foreign Labor Application Gateway for employers who have filed LCAs under SOC codes for compliance managers. Prior filings signal that a company already understands the E-3 visa process and won't treat sponsorship as an obstacle.
Clarify your specialty occupation case before applying
Trade Compliance Manager roles must require a bachelor's degree in a specific field to qualify as a specialty occupation. If your target role lists 'preferred' rather than 'required' for a degree, flag that early. A vague job description can complicate your LCA before it's filed.
Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service after your offer
Once you have a signed offer, use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to handle your LCA and visa paperwork. The LCA must be certified by DOL before your consulate appointment, and the sequencing matters for your start date.
Address E-3 practicalities in offer negotiations
Confirm your employer will pay the LCA prevailing wage and cover filing fees before you accept. The E-3 is employer-tied, so any role change after approval requires a new LCA and a fresh visa stamp at a consulate.
Prepare a degree equivalency letter if you hold a three-year qualification
Australian three-year bachelor's degrees are generally accepted for E-3 specialty occupation purposes, but some consular officers request a credential evaluation from a USCIS-recognized evaluation service to confirm U.S. equivalency. Arrange this before your interview.
E-3 Visa Trade Compliance Manager: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Trade Compliance Manager jobs with E-3 visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate filters Trade Compliance Manager roles by employers who have demonstrated E-3 or H-1B visa sponsorship history, so you're not cold-applying to companies unfamiliar with the process. Standard job boards don't surface sponsorship willingness, which means most applications go to employers who won't engage an international hire. Searching with Migrate Mate removes that friction.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Is the E-3 or H-1B better for Trade Compliance Manager roles?
For Australian nationals, the E-3 is a straightforward advantage. There's no lottery, no annual cap, and the 10,500-slot allocation has never been exhausted. H-1B registrations far exceed available slots each year, meaning most applicants aren't selected. Trade Compliance Manager roles qualify equally under both visa types as specialty occupations, so Australians should pursue the E-3 first.
Does a Trade Compliance Manager role qualify as a specialty occupation for E-3 purposes?
Yes, provided the position requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a specific field such as international trade, supply chain management, business, or law. The key test is whether the degree is a genuine requirement, not a preference. Roles involving ITAR, EAR, or OFAC compliance typically satisfy this standard because the regulatory complexity demands specialized academic training.
Can I change employers while on an E-3 as a Trade Compliance Manager?
You can change employers, but each new position requires a new LCA certified by DOL and a new visa stamp obtained at an Australian consulate. Unlike H-1B portability rules, there's no formal E-3 transfer mechanism that lets you start work immediately upon filing. You'll need your new employer to complete the LCA process and your consulate appointment before you begin the new role.
