Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding E-3 Visa Sponsorship in User Experience UX
Translate your portfolio for U.S. hiring managers
U.S. employers assess UX candidates through case studies, not just CVs. Structure each portfolio piece around a defined problem, your process, and measurable outcomes so interviewers can link your work directly to the specialty occupation requirement.
Target companies with active LCA filing history
Search the DOL's Office of Foreign Labor Certification disclosure data to identify employers who have filed LCAs for UX or design roles before. Prior filings signal familiarity with the E-3 visa process and reduce the risk of a cold sponsorship conversation.
Find E-3 UX roles through Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to search UX and product design roles filtered by E-3 sponsorship history. Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service also handles your LCA filing and visa paperwork end-to-end once you have an offer.
Clarify your degree field matches the role
USCIS evaluates whether your degree aligns with the specific UX position, not design broadly. A psychology or cognitive science degree can satisfy specialty occupation if the job description explicitly requires understanding of human behavior and user research.
Address dual intent before your consulate interview
UX roles at growth-stage tech companies sometimes raise immigrant intent questions at interview. Prepare a clear statement about your current employment terms and the two-year renewable structure of your E-3 so the consular officer understands your nonimmigrant basis.
Confirm your employer understands the LCA timeline
The LCA must be certified by the DOL before your visa application can proceed. Walk your hiring manager or HR contact through this step early so the offer letter and start date account for the certification window, typically seven to ten business days.
E-3 Visa User Experience UX: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find User Experience UX jobs that offer E-3 visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is the most direct way to search UX roles with confirmed E-3 sponsorship. Beyond that, target employers with a record of LCA filings for design or research roles using DOL disclosure data. Framing your outreach around the low employer burden of the E-3, no lottery and no cap, helps reduce hesitation from hiring teams unfamiliar with Australian work visas.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does a UX role qualify as a specialty occupation for the E-3 visa?
Yes, provided the position requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a specific related field such as interaction design, human-computer interaction, cognitive psychology, or information science. USCIS looks at whether the degree is normally required for the role, not just preferred. Job descriptions that accept any bachelor's degree regardless of field can create problems, so it's worth reviewing the posting language with your employer before they file the LCA.
How does the E-3 visa compare to the H-1B for UX professionals?
The E-3 has no annual lottery and no numerical cap that affects most applicants, so Australian UX professionals can apply at any point in the year once they have a qualifying offer. The H-1B visa is subject to an oversubscribed lottery, meaning selection is not guaranteed regardless of qualifications. Both require a specialty occupation determination, but the E-3 is processed through a consular interview in Australia rather than a lengthy USCIS adjudication, which typically results in a faster path to starting work.
Can I change UX employers while on an E-3 visa?
Yes, but the E-3 is employer-specific, so your new employer must file a fresh LCA and you will need a new visa stamp before or at the time of the change. Unlike the H-1B, there is no portability provision that lets you start work the moment a transfer petition is filed. If you're already in the U.S., you can begin the new employer's LCA and consulate process while still employed, but timing the transition carefully avoids any gap in authorized status.
