Document your degree equivalency early
Australian three-year bachelor's degrees are generally accepted as equivalent to U.S. four-year degrees, but your employer's immigration team may request a credential evaluation. Get a professional evaluation done before you start interviewing so it doesn't delay your LCA filing.
Target employers with active LCA filing history
Search the DOL's Foreign Labor Application Gateway for certified LCAs under SOC codes for program management roles. Employers who have filed LCAs before understand the process and won't need convincing that E-3 visa sponsorship is straightforward.
Search for E-3 sponsorship roles on Migrate Mate
Migrate Mate filters roles by E-3 sponsorship history so you're not cold-pitching employers unfamiliar with the visa. Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to handle your LCA and visa paperwork once you receive an offer.
Frame your offer letter around specialty occupation criteria
Your job offer must describe Director-level duties that specifically require a degree in a relevant field. Generic descriptions referencing general management experience without a degree requirement can complicate your LCA certification, so work with your employer to tighten the language before filing.
Address prevailing wage requirements before negotiating salary
DOL requires your employer to pay at least the prevailing wage for the role and location before certifying the LCA. Check the current wage level for program management positions in your target city on the DOL wage library so your offer aligns with what's needed to certify.
Prepare for consulate questions about third-party project delivery
Consular officers sometimes question Director of Program Management applicants about whether they'll be stationed at client sites rather than the petitioning employer's location. Bring documentation showing your direct employment relationship, your employer's office address, and your reporting structure to avoid administrative processing delays.
E-3 Visa Director Of Program Management: Frequently Asked Questions
Where can I find Director of Program Management jobs with E-3 visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for Australian professionals searching for roles with E-3 sponsorship. It surfaces companies that have filed LCAs for program management positions, so you can focus your applications on employers who already understand the E-3 process rather than educating hiring managers from scratch.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does a Director of Program Management role qualify as an E-3 specialty occupation?
Yes, provided the position requires at minimum a bachelor's degree in a specific field such as business administration, engineering, or computer science. Roles that accept any degree or substitute years of experience without a degree requirement are harder to certify. The more precisely the job description ties the duties to a specific discipline, the cleaner the specialty occupation argument.
How does the E-3 compare to the H-1B for Director of Program Management roles?
The E-3 is exclusively available to Australian citizens and has a 10,500 annual cap that has never been exhausted, meaning there is no lottery and you can apply at any time of year. The H-1B visa has an annual cap of 85,000 with a heavily oversubscribed lottery. For Australian program management professionals, the E-3 is a far more predictable path to U.S. employment.
Can I change employers after starting work on an E-3 in a program management role?
Yes, but your new employer must file a fresh LCA with DOL and you'll need to obtain a new E-3 visa stamp, typically at an Australian consulate, before re-entering the U.S. or, in some cases, through consular processing. Unlike H-1B portability, you generally can't start with the new employer until the new visa is issued, so plan your transition timeline carefully.
