Translate your credentials for U.S. employers
An Australian three-year bachelor's degree is generally accepted as equivalent to a U.S. four-year degree for E-3 visa purposes. Document how your degree field aligns with sales leadership, since specialty occupation requires a direct connection between your qualifications and the VP role.
Target companies with existing E-3 filing history
Search DOL Labor Condition Application disclosure data to identify employers who have previously filed LCAs for Australian nationals. Companies with E-3 experience move faster and raise fewer internal questions about the process than those sponsoring for the first time.
Frame the E-3 advantage in early conversations
When a hiring manager raises visa concerns, clarify that the E-3 has no lottery and no cap. For VP-level roles with long hiring cycles, this distinction matters: your start date isn't subject to an annual random draw the way H-1B visa candidates' timelines are.
Get your LCA filed before accepting an offer
The employer must obtain a certified LCA from DOL before you can proceed to consulate. Align on this sequencing early in negotiations so the LCA is filed the week an offer is extended, not after a lengthy legal review. Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to handle your LCA and visa paperwork without delays.
Negotiate for employer-paid filing costs
E-3 filing fees are substantially lower than H-1B costs, which makes employer coverage a reasonable ask at the VP level. Most companies that regularly sponsor executive hires absorb these costs, but you need to raise it explicitly during offer negotiation.
Use Migrate Mate to find verified E-3 sponsoring employers
Generic job searches surface roles without filtering for visa sponsorship willingness. Migrate Mate lists Vice President Sales positions from employers actively open to E-3 candidates, cutting the time you spend pursuing companies that screen out international applicants before the first interview.
E-3 Visa Vice President Sales: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Vice President Sales jobs with E-3 sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for this search. It filters Vice President Sales roles by employers open to E-3 visa sponsorship, so you're not sorting through listings from companies that won't sponsor Australian nationals. Standard job boards don't filter by visa type, which means significant time wasted on applications that go nowhere.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does a VP Sales role qualify as a specialty occupation for the E-3?
Yes, when the position requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a specific field such as business administration, marketing, or a related discipline. The key is that the role must normally require that degree, not merely prefer it. VP-level sales roles at mid-size and enterprise companies typically meet this standard because strategic planning, territory management, and revenue forecasting draw on formal business education.
How does the E-3 compare to the H-1B for VP Sales candidates?
The E-3 has a structural advantage for Australian nationals: there is no annual lottery. H-1B candidates compete in a randomised selection process each April, which can delay a start date by a year or more. E-3 applications are filed directly with a U.S. consulate in Australia after the LCA is certified, and processing at Sydney, Melbourne, and Perth typically runs two to four weeks.
Can I switch employers after starting a VP Sales role on an E-3?
Yes, but you can't transfer the E-3 itself. Each new employer must file a fresh LCA with DOL and you'll need a new visa stamp at a U.S. consulate if your current one has expired, or a new I-94 admission through a port of entry. Build this timeline into your transition planning, especially if your current visa stamp is near its expiry date.
