Education Counselor Jobs in Delaware: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a education counselor in Delaware?
To become an education counselor in Delaware, you must earn a master's degree in school counseling or a related field, then apply for a Standard License through the Delaware Department of Education. The licensure process requires completing an approved counselor preparation program, passing the Praxis School Counselor exam, and completing a supervised internship. Candidates working in higher education or nonprofit settings may not require state licensure but typically need a master's degree and relevant advising experience.
Which companies hire education counselors in Delaware?
Companies currently hiring education counselors in Delaware include LifeStance Health, State of Delaware, and Magellan Health, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Delaware's mix of public school districts, state universities, and college access nonprofits means openings are distributed across both institutional and community-based employers throughout the state.
Which Delaware cities have the most education counselor jobs?
Wilmington, New Castle, and Dover have the most education counselor openings in Delaware. Wilmington leads because of its large K-12 district footprint and concentration of college access nonprofits, while Dover and Newark reflect the presence of Delaware State University, the University of Delaware, and multiple public school districts anchoring consistent demand in those areas.
Are there remote education counselor jobs in Delaware?
Yes, but they're uncommon. Most education counselor roles require in-person presence with students, families, or campus communities, making full remote work rare in this field. About 65% of education counselor openings tied to Delaware are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, and those positions tend to be in college access program coordination or virtual academic coaching rather than traditional school-based counseling.
How can I get hired as a education counselor in Delaware with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying for school counseling internship placements or paraprofessional roles within Delaware's public school districts, particularly through Christina School District, Colonial School District, or Red Clay Consolidated School District, which regularly bring on candidates completing their master's programs. Lateral moves from roles like academic advisor, case manager, or student support specialist can also open the door. Completing the Praxis School Counselor exam and securing a Delaware Department of Education intern certificate before finishing your degree gives candidates a meaningful hiring edge.
Where can I find and apply to education counselor jobs in Delaware?
You can find and apply to education counselor jobs in Delaware on Migrate Mate, which lists current Delaware openings across school districts, universities, and nonprofit organizations.
