Education Counselor Jobs in Wyoming: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a education counselor in Wyoming?
Most education counselor positions in Wyoming require a school counselor license issued by the Wyoming Professional Teaching Standards Board. Candidates must hold a master's degree in counseling or a related field, complete an approved counselor preparation program, and pass the Praxis School Counselor exam. Applications go through the PTSB's online portal. Some workforce or postsecondary advising roles do not require this license but typically expect a master's degree and relevant counseling experience.
Which companies hire education counselors in Wyoming?
Companies currently hiring education counselors in Wyoming include US Department of Veterans Affairs, Leidos, and City of Cheyenne, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Wyoming's hiring market for this role is anchored by public school districts, the University of Wyoming system, and state-contracted workforce development organizations.
Which Wyoming cities have the most education counselor jobs?
Sheridan, Cheyenne, and Wyoming have the most education counselor openings in Wyoming. Cheyenne and Casper lead because they host the state's largest school districts and major community college campuses, while Laramie draws consistent postings from the University of Wyoming and its affiliated student services offices.
Are there remote education counselor jobs in Wyoming?
Yes, but they're rare. Most education counselor work requires in-person presence with students, families, and school staff, which limits remote options significantly. About 14% of education counselor openings tied to Wyoming are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, and those roles tend to be in adult education advising, virtual school counseling, or grant-funded outreach positions serving rural Wyoming communities.
How can I get hired as a education counselor in Wyoming with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a graduate-level counseling internship placed within a Wyoming school district, which many University of Wyoming counselor education students complete through partnerships with Laramie County and Natrona County school districts. Candidates without direct counseling experience often move in from adjacent roles such as school social worker, academic advisor, or student support specialist. Earning your Wyoming PTSB school counselor license, even before securing a full counselor position, signals readiness to district hiring committees and opens doors to counseling aide postings.
Where can I find and apply to education counselor jobs in Wyoming?
You can find and apply to education counselor jobs in Wyoming on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across the state. Search the roles available, find the ones that fit your background and location, and apply directly through the listings.
