- Recognize and support the unique Catholic Mission of the Religious Education program by speaking, acting, and instructing consistent with the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church. The assistant may not espouse, in word or deed, any doctrine inconsistent with the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church.
- Give evidence of living Gospel values by being an active member of a faith community and being open to the importance of a personal faith journey; strive to model the teaching of Jesus by attitude and example.
- Responsible for overseeing the Bilingual Religious Education program or activities when the Director of Religious Education is unavailable.
- Assist with Bilingual Religious Education open registration in August.
- Help with mailings as needed.
- Assign students to appropriate Bilingual Religious Education programs as needed.
- Help purchase materials and supplies while working within the Bilingual Religious Education budget.
- Make supply boxes for Bilingual Religious Education catechists.
- Unlock the doors for the Sunday Bilingual Religious Education program.
- Help set up sacrament gatherings; Reconciliation, Eucharist, and Confirmation.
- Make copies for both the English and Spanish Bilingual programs.
- Assist with the set-up of Catechist gatherings.
- Assist with the set-up, program, and clean up for the Christmas programs and May Crowning Celebration.
- Assist with all sacrament celebrations.
- Keep the Director of Religious Education informed of any problems that arise.
- Work cooperatively with the administration and all staff members; promote positive relationships with students, parents, and others.
- Maintain a professional manner and demonstrate a sense of professional responsibility.
- Adhere to the Diocese of Tucson Safe Environment program and guidelines regarding appropriate boundaries and compliance with current mandatory reporting law.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- A working knowledge of, and a strong commitment to the mission of fostering lay leadership in the Catholic Church. If a baptized Catholic, must be a practicing Roman Catholic in full communion with the Church.
- Must have a working knowledge of and commitment to all the Religious Education programs at Our Mother of Sorrows for children 4 years old through high school.
- General computer skills including internet research.
- Excellent communications skills include written and verbal.
- Must be able to resolve conflicts when they arise.
- Professional bearing and clean and neat personal appearance.
- Must be a self-starter, be well-organized, flexible, and be a team player.
- Always maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to work collaboratively with the Director of Religious Education, catechists, and parish staff.
- Weekend work will be required, and evening work may be required.
- Perform multiple tasks simultaneously and with a sense of urgency.
- Exercise courtesy to fellow employees, parents, and others
- Be able to successfully complete criminal history and background check.
- Be fluent in speaking and writing English and Spanish.
- A working knowledge of Religious Education programs
- Annual assignment begins the second week of August and continues through the first week of June in the following year.
- While hours may fluctuate depending on the workload, it averages about 10 hours per week.
