This position owns major electrical subsystems, drives design documentation and reviews, supports cross-functional collaboration, mentors early‑career engineers, and ensures solutions meet safety, manufacturability, compliance, and performance expectations across the full product lifecycle.
As an Electrical Design Engineer, you will:
- Lead electrical design and validation for major subsystems and product areas
- Translate system requirements into practical, robust electrical designs
- Own schematics, drawings, calculations, specifications, and bills of material
- Drive design reviews, trade studies, prototype builds, testing, and troubleshooting
- Collaborate with mechanical, systems, manufacturing, sourcing, quality, and project teams
- Mentor early‑career engineers and reinforce electrical design standards
- Support project planning, effort estimation, and execution
- Stay current with advancements in power systems, microgrids, renewable energy, and power conversion technologies
- Work collaboratively with suppliers and Applied partners
- Contribute to projects that impact communities in the greater Minneapolis metro

QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering required
- 5–8 years of industrial experience in electrical design or electromechanical systems
- Strong knowledge of power distribution, conversion, monitoring, controls, and system integration
- Experience designing specifications for switchgear, switchboards, transfer switches, loadbanks, and generators
- Experience selecting and validating electrical components using NEC, UL, and industry derating criteria
- Proven experience with design documentation, reviews, testing, validation, and troubleshooting
- Working knowledge of design standards, manufacturability, safety, and compliance practices
- Familiarity with industry standards and regulations for electrical power solutions
- Ability to specify safe and effective prototype testing practices
- Detail‑oriented, proactive, and effective in fast‑paced environments
- Strong communication and cross‑functional collaboration skills
- Experience with AutoCAD Electrical, SolidWorks Electrical, ETAP, SKM, or similar tools
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365
- Ability to travel up to 20% within the USA
- Experience in research or new product development environments
- NFPA 70E Certification
- Knowledge of UL standards including UL1008, UL508A, UL1691, UL489, UL924, UL1741, UL9540, and others
- Understanding of NFPA 70, 101, 99, and related codes preferred
- Experience with ERP, PLM, and engineering data management systems preferred
- Capable of working independently and as a team member
