The Opportunity

SiPhox Health is building a first-of-its-kind consumer diagnostics platform that brings complex biochemical analyses into the home through integrated silicon photonics, microfluidics, embedded systems, and advanced assay development. Our chip-based solution integrates state-of-the-art biochemistry, photonics, electronics, and microfluidics to deliver the power of large laboratory instruments in a portable device.

You'll work hands-on alongside our engineering teams to bring up, build, and test our systems. No two days will look the same. One day you're assembling an electro-mechanical instrument, the next you're chasing down the root cause of an intermittent fault or installing new manufacturing equipment on the production floor. We're looking for someone who doesn't wait to be told what's broken—you'll spot issues early, dig into them, and propose the fix.

This is a role for a builder who takes pride in craftsmanship and wants ownership over the systems they touch.

Key Responsibilities

• Assemble electro-mechanical systems from components through to functional units.
• Rework and repair PCBAs, including component-level soldering and modification.
• Build and rework wiring harnesses to spec.
• Lead root-cause investigations on faulty systems and carry them through to repair.
• Install, set up, and support manufacturing equipment.
• Partner closely with hardware, mechanical, and software engineers to bring up and validate new systems.
• Proactively identify problems and propose resolutions using your own judgment.

What We're Looking For

Must Have

• Relevant qualification (e.g. Associate CET, Associate/BS Electrical Engineering).
• Hands-on experience assembling electro-mechanical systems.
• Proficiency in PCBA rework and component-level soldering (IPC-A-610 / J-STD-001 familiarity a plus).
• Can create basic documentation for work instructions, corrective actions, maintenance logs, etc.
• Experience building and reworking wiring harnesses.
• Strong troubleshooting instincts—you can isolate a fault across mechanical, electrical, and software boundaries.
• Self-directed and comfortable with ambiguity; you take initiative rather than waiting for direction.
• Clear communicator who documents work and collaborates well with engineering teams.

Nice to Have

• Experience in a regulated manufacturing environment (medical device, ISO 9001, ISO 13485).
• Familiarity with test equipment (multimeters, oscilloscopes, power supplies) for bring-up and debug.

KPIs (Success Measures)

• Turnaround time on PCBA rework and repair requests, from intake to functional sign-off.
• Root-cause investigation cycle time and repeat-failure rate on previously repaired units.
• Build quality and first-pass yield on electro-mechanical assemblies and wiring harnesses.
• Uptime and responsiveness on manufacturing equipment installs and support requests.
• Quality and completeness of documentation (work instructions, corrective actions, maintenance logs).

Authority & Decision Rights

• Authority to triage and prioritize hands-on rework, repair, and bring-up work using independent judgment.
• Ability to flag and escalate systemic hardware issues or equipment risks to engineering leadership.
• Input on repair vs. replace decisions for faulty units and subassemblies.
• Authority to pause or flag builds when quality or safety standards are not met.

Key Relationships

• Hardware Engineering: partner on bring-up, debug, and validation of new systems and revisions.
• Mechanical Engineering: collaborate on electro-mechanical assembly and integration.
• Software Engineering: coordinate on faults that cross electrical/software boundaries.
• Manufacturing / Production: support equipment install, setup, and ongoing floor operations.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift up to 20 pounds.
• Ability to do dexterous tasks with hands, e.g. soldering, cable crimping.
• This role involves physical activity and routine handling of chemicals. Candidates must adhere to all laboratory safety protocols and be comfortable using appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
