Engineering Project Manager Jobs in Mississippi: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a engineering project manager in Mississippi?
Most engineering project manager roles in Mississippi require a bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline followed by several years of field or project experience. Candidates who pursue licensure through the Mississippi State Board of Licensure for Professional Engineers and Surveyors gain a meaningful edge, particularly for public infrastructure or defense work. Earning a Project Management Professional certification through PMI further strengthens candidacy, and many Mississippi employers in shipbuilding and defense treat it as a strong differentiator.
How much do engineering project managers make in Mississippi?
Engineering project managers in Mississippi earn a median of about $142,790 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $99,210 for the lowest 10% to over $205,560 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire engineering project managers in Mississippi?
Companies currently hiring engineering project managers in Mississippi include Amazon, CVS Health, and Milwaukee Tool, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Mississippi's defense, shipbuilding, and energy sectors drive consistent demand, so employers tied to Huntington Ingalls, the Army Corps of Engineers, and large utility or infrastructure contractors tend to post the most sustained openings.
Which Mississippi cities have the most engineering project manager jobs?
Jackson, Canton, and Flowood lead Mississippi for engineering project manager openings. Jackson anchors demand as the state capital and home to major infrastructure and government contractors, while the Gulfport and Biloxi area is driven by Huntington Ingalls Industries and a dense cluster of defense and maritime engineering firms along the Gulf Coast.
Are there remote engineering project manager jobs in Mississippi?
Yes, but they're less common than in purely desk-based fields because the role typically requires on-site presence for inspections, contractor meetings, and milestone reviews. About 17% of engineering project manager openings tied to Mississippi are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, and the tasks most likely to be performed remotely are scheduling, reporting, and stakeholder coordination rather than field oversight.
How can I get hired as a engineering project manager in Mississippi with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying as a project engineer or assistant project manager at large Mississippi construction, defense, or utilities firms, then building toward a full PM role. Ingalls Shipbuilding and major Army Corps of Engineers contractors regularly bring on junior engineers in coordinator or support roles. Completing an internship or co-op with a Mississippi infrastructure firm, earning an entry-level PMI certification like CAPM, and building a portfolio of scoped assignments from any technical role gives early-career candidates a concrete edge in this market.
Where can I find and apply to engineering project manager jobs in Mississippi?
