Automation Project Manager Jobs in Mississippi: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a automation project manager in Mississippi?
Most employers in Mississippi require a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, industrial technology, or a related field before considering candidates for automation project manager roles. Mississippi does not issue a state-specific license for this position, so the practical path runs through an engineering or technology degree, followed by field experience in industrial automation, and then a professional project management credential such as the PMP from the Project Management Institute, which is widely recognized by Mississippi manufacturers, energy companies, and defense contractors.
How much do automation project managers make in Mississippi?
Automation project managers in Mississippi earn a median of about $78,870 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $50,840 for the lowest 10% to over $140,140 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire automation project managers in Mississippi?
Companies currently hiring automation project managers in Mississippi include CBRE, Milwaukee Tool, and Steel Dynamics, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Mississippi's concentration of shipbuilding, automotive manufacturing, and energy sector facilities means that large industrial employers and their engineering contractors make up the majority of consistent openings in the state.
Which Mississippi cities have the most automation project manager jobs?
Jackson, Columbus, and Flowood account for the highest concentration of automation project manager openings in Mississippi. Jackson draws hiring from state government facilities and industrial parks in the metro core, Gulfport benefits from the defense and shipbuilding activity along the Gulf Coast, and Hattiesburg serves as a regional hub for manufacturing and logistics operations that require ongoing automation project leadership.
Are there remote automation project manager jobs in Mississippi?
Yes, but they're rare. Automation project managers typically oversee on-site commissioning, equipment installation, and plant floor coordination, making fully remote work uncommon in this field. About 33% of automation project manager openings tied to Mississippi are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, and those tend to cover the planning, documentation, and vendor coordination phases of a project rather than the hands-on implementation work.
How can I get hired as a automation project manager in Mississippi with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is starting as a controls technician, automation engineer, or industrial electrician at one of Mississippi's manufacturing facilities, then moving into a project coordination role. Nissan's Canton plant, Ingalls Shipbuilding, and regional chemical and energy employers regularly bring on early-career engineers and technicians who build project management experience from the floor up. Earning a CAPM credential from the Project Management Institute while still in a technical role signals readiness for a PM transition, and hands-on PLC or SCADA experience on a portfolio project gives candidates a concrete edge when applying for a first automation PM position.
Where can I find and apply to automation project manager jobs in Mississippi?
You can find and apply to automation project manager jobs in Mississippi on Migrate Mate, which lists current Mississippi openings in one place. Search the roles that match your experience level and target industry, then apply directly to whichever positions fit your background.
