Project Manager Jobs in Mississippi: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a project manager in Mississippi?
Most project managers in Mississippi enter the field with a bachelor's degree in business, engineering, or construction management, then build experience managing smaller projects before stepping into a formal PM role. Mississippi has no state-issued license for the title, but the Project Management Professional certification from PMI is the standard credential employers expect. Candidates in construction often also pursue licensure through the Mississippi State Board of Contractors.
How much do project managers make in Mississippi?
Project managers in Mississippi earn a median of about $142,790 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $99,210 for the lowest 10% to over $205,560 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire project managers in Mississippi?
Employers hiring project managers in Mississippi right now include ECS Limited, Yates Construction, and Turner & Townsend Pty Limited, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Mississippi's mix of energy, healthcare, defense, and state infrastructure spending keeps a consistent range of employers in the market across both the Gulf Coast and central Mississippi regions.
Which Mississippi cities have the most project manager jobs?
Jackson, Ridgeland, and Canton lead Mississippi for project manager openings. Jackson drives volume through state government agencies, healthcare systems, and IT contractors, while Gulfport and Biloxi benefit from Gulf Coast energy operations, military installations like Keesler Air Force Base, and ongoing coastal infrastructure projects that require experienced project managers year-round.
Are there remote project manager jobs in Mississippi?
Yes, and more than most fields, since project management is largely coordination, documentation, and communication work that transfers well to remote settings. About 27% of project manager openings tied to Mississippi are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting broader adoption of distributed teams across technology and corporate sectors. IT and software delivery roles tend to offer the most remote flexibility, while construction and infrastructure roles nearly always require on-site presence.
How can I get hired as a project manager in Mississippi with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving into a project coordinator or project administrator role, which Mississippi employers in healthcare, construction, and state government regularly hire without requiring prior PM titles. Large hospital systems and engineering firms across Jackson and the Gulf Coast often post coordinator roles as entry points. Building toward a CAPM credential from PMI while in those roles signals commitment, and experience with scheduling tools or documenting project milestones is often enough to compete for a first PM position.
