Engineering Program Manager Jobs in Mississippi: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a engineering program manager in Mississippi?
The most direct path is a bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline, followed by several years in a technical or project coordination role within defense, shipbuilding, or manufacturing. Mississippi has no state-issued license specific to program management, but employers in the state consistently expect a Project Management Professional certification or equivalent. Many candidates build experience at large contractors along the Gulf Coast before stepping into a full program manager title.
How much do engineering program managers make in Mississippi?
Engineering program managers in Mississippi earn a median of about $142,790 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $99,210 for the lowest 10% to over $205,560 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire engineering program managers in Mississippi?
Employers hiring engineering program managers in Mississippi right now include Amazon, CVS Health, and Milwaukee Tool, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Mississippi's concentration of defense shipbuilding and aerospace contractors creates steady, recurring demand rather than sporadic hiring bursts.
Which Mississippi cities have the most engineering program manager jobs?
Canton, Jackson, and Flowood account for the largest share of engineering program manager openings in Mississippi. Pascagoula and Gulfport are driven by major shipbuilding and naval program activity, while Jackson draws demand from state government infrastructure projects and regional manufacturing operations, making the distribution follow major employer footprints rather than population size alone.
Are there remote engineering program manager jobs in Mississippi?
Yes, but they are less common than in purely analytical fields because the role often requires on-site coordination with engineering teams, contractors, and government customers. About 17% of engineering program manager openings tied to Mississippi are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting the hands-on oversight typical of defense and manufacturing programs. The portions of the work most amenable to remote arrangement are reporting, scheduling, and stakeholder communication.
How can I get hired as a engineering program manager in Mississippi with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry point is a project coordinator or junior program analyst role at a large Mississippi defense contractor such as Ingalls Shipbuilding or Northrop Grumman, both of which run new-graduate development programs. Starting as a systems engineer, quality engineer, or contracts administrator gives you direct exposure to program lifecycle work and makes an internal transition to program management achievable. Earning a Certified Associate in Project Management credential while in an entry role signals readiness to hiring managers before you have the title.
Where can I find and apply to engineering program manager jobs in Mississippi?
You can find and apply to engineering program manager jobs in Mississippi on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across the state. Search the listings, find roles that match your background and location, and apply directly to the ones that fit.
