Security Project Manager Jobs in Mississippi: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a security project manager in Mississippi?
The most direct path is earning a Project Management Professional credential through the Project Management Institute while building experience in a security-related field such as IT, physical security, or defense contracting. Mississippi does not have a state-issued license specific to security project managers, but employers across Jackson and along the Gulf Coast corridor consistently require PMP certification alongside a degree in information technology, criminal justice, or engineering. Relevant work in government contracting or critical infrastructure gives candidates a clear edge.
How much do security project managers make in Mississippi?
Security project managers in Mississippi earn a median of about $78,870 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $50,840 for the lowest 10% to over $140,140 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire security project managers in Mississippi?
Mississippi security project manager roles are posted by Amazon, Milwaukee Tool, and Wayne-Sanderson Farms and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Mississippi's concentration of federal contractors and military-adjacent employers along the Gulf Coast and in the Jackson metro makes it a consistent market for candidates with cleared or compliance-focused backgrounds.
Which Mississippi cities have the most security project manager jobs?
Jackson, Flowood, and Pascagoula lead Mississippi for security project manager openings. Jackson drives volume as the state capital and primary hub for state agency contracts and corporate IT security programs, while Gulfport and surrounding Hancock and Harrison County communities benefit from proximity to Keesler Air Force Base and the shipbuilding and defense corridor that anchors the Gulf Coast economy.
Are there remote security project manager jobs in Mississippi?
Yes, but they are less common than in purely analytical fields because many security project manager roles involve on-site coordination of physical installations, vendor walkthroughs, or classified facility work. About 38% of security project manager openings tied to Mississippi are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, with remote work most available in the cybersecurity program management and compliance documentation sides of the role.
How can I get hired as a security project manager in Mississippi with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry point is moving into a project coordinator or security analyst role at a Mississippi defense contractor or state agency, then building toward project management responsibilities from there. Employers like Leidos and Northrop Grumman, which maintain operations in the Jackson and Gulf Coast areas, regularly onboard candidates from adjacent roles in IT support, physical security operations, or military service. Earning a CAPM credential while in an entry role and documenting any project lifecycle work in a portfolio accelerates the transition substantially.
Where can I find and apply to security project manager jobs in Mississippi?
You can find and apply to security project manager jobs in Mississippi on Migrate Mate, which lists current Mississippi openings. Search the available roles, find the ones that match your background and location, and apply directly to the ones that fit.
