Design Project Manager Jobs in Mississippi: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a design project manager in Mississippi?
Most Mississippi employers expect a bachelor's degree in architecture, interior design, construction management, or engineering, combined with hands-on project coordination experience. Mississippi does not issue a state license specifically for design project managers, but holding a PMP credential from the Project Management Institute or registration as an Architect through the Mississippi State Board of Architecture strengthens candidacy considerably. Professionals moving from interior design benefit from NCIDQ certification, which Mississippi recognizes for licensed interior designers.
How much do design project managers make in Mississippi?
Design project managers in Mississippi earn a median of about $78,870 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $50,840 for the lowest 10% to over $140,140 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire design project managers in Mississippi?
Mississippi design project manager roles are posted by Hitachi Energy, Milwaukee Tool, and Wayne-Sanderson Farms and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Mississippi's shipbuilding corridor along the Gulf Coast and its large state agency and university systems generate consistent demand year-round.
Which Mississippi cities have the most design project manager jobs?
Jackson, Crystal Springs, and Tupelo have the most design project manager openings in Mississippi right now. Jackson's concentration of state government agencies, healthcare systems, and engineering firms drives the capital region's volume, while Gulfport and Biloxi benefit from active commercial construction and Gulf Coast resort development that keeps project management roles in steady demand.
Are there remote design project manager jobs in Mississippi?
Yes, and they're more common than in most design roles. About 29% of design project manager openings tied to Mississippi are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting how much of the role involves software-based coordination, client communication, and documentation review. Phases involving site walkthroughs or contractor meetings still require a physical presence, so fully remote positions tend to focus on pre-construction planning and digital deliverable management.
How can I get hired as a design project manager in Mississippi with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a junior project coordinator or design coordinator role at a Mississippi architecture or construction firm, where you support a senior PM on active projects. Firms like Yates Construction and state agencies under the Mississippi Department of Transportation post assistant-level positions that do not require prior PM experience. Building a portfolio of academic or freelance projects and earning a CAPM certification before applying gives candidates a concrete edge over others with similar backgrounds.
Where can I find and apply to design project manager jobs in Mississippi?
You can find and apply to design project manager jobs in Mississippi on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers across the state. Search the listings, identify the roles that match your experience and preferred location, and apply directly to the ones that fit.
