Engineering Project Manager Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a engineering project manager in Texas?
Most engineering project manager roles in Texas require a bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline, and many employers expect candidates to hold or be working toward a Project Management Professional certification through PMI. Texas does not mandate a state-issued project management license, but engineers who take on responsible charge of projects may need a Professional Engineer license through the Texas Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors. Relevant field experience in Texas industries like energy, construction, or defense significantly strengthens any application.
How much do engineering project managers make in Texas?
Engineering project managers in Texas earn a median of about $171,370 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $120,460 for the lowest 10% to over $277,790 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire engineering project managers in Texas?
Employers hiring engineering project managers in Texas right now include Apple, Garver, and Amazon, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's concentration of energy majors, EPC firms, defense contractors, and large industrial manufacturers means consistent demand for this role across the state year-round.
Which Texas cities have the most engineering project manager jobs?
Austin, Houston, and Dallas are the Texas cities with the most engineering project manager openings. Houston leads because of its dense concentration of energy companies, petrochemical facilities, and EPC headquarters, while Dallas-Fort Worth draws demand from technology infrastructure, defense, and large corporate engineering programs, and San Antonio supports steady hiring through its military installations and growing manufacturing base.
Are there remote engineering project manager jobs in Texas?
Yes, but they're less common than in purely desk-based fields because engineering project management typically requires site visits, contractor coordination, and hands-on oversight. About 14% of engineering project manager openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, with remote work most concentrated in planning-phase, program management, and pre-construction roles rather than active field or construction management positions.
How can I get hired as a engineering project manager in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is starting as a project engineer or project coordinator, which are the direct on-ramp roles at large Texas EPC and energy firms. Companies like Jacobs, Fluor, and Burns & McDonnell run structured new-grad rotational programs out of their Houston and Dallas offices that are specifically designed to move engineers into project management. Earning a Certified Associate in Project Management credential from PMI while working in a technical support role gives candidates a measurable edge, and lateral moves from estimating, scheduling, or field engineering positions into project management are common within Texas's construction and energy sectors.
Where can I find and apply to engineering project manager jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to engineering project manager jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings tied to Texas employers and locations. Find roles that fit your experience and apply directly to the ones that match.
